A lot of people are confused and frustrated over a newly coined slang term from U.S. President Donald Trump that relates to his highly controversial reciprocal tariffs.

The term is "panican," and Trump is using it to refer to what he labeled "weak" and "stupid" people who are panicking because of his implementation of tariffs, which he believes will be beneficial to the U.S. despite having some disastrous impacts on stock markets around the globe.

But what is the exact definition of "panican," how is it being used in memes and how are people reacting to it online? Here's what you need to know.

What Does 'Panican' Mean?

The term "panican" was coined by President Donald Trump earlier today on April 7th, 2025, amid the ongoing stock market crash due to his launching of reciprocal tariffs, which some are now calling "Orange Monday."

This morning, Trump made a post on Truth Social and later on X / Twitter reading, "The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done DECADES AGO. Don’t be Weak! Don’t be Stupid! Don’t be a PANICAN (A new party based on Weak and Stupid people!). Be Strong, Courageous, and Patient, and GREATNESS will be the result!"

The post seems to be a direct response to the backlash Trump's administration has been receiving for tanking global stock markets and implementing tariffs.

It seems to suggest that the people who panic about the tariffs and their effects on the market are stupid, weak and should wait for their supposed benefits to show themselves. He also writes that a "panican" is a "party based on weak and stupid people," meaning it's also the name of an imaginary political party made up of stupid, weak people and presumably a portmanteau of "panic" and "American" or "panic" and "Republican."

How Is 'Panican' Used In Memes?

The term "panican" has been met with a lot of backlash and mockery online and has also inspired memes, similar to his many other memeable quotes.

As far as slang terms go, many are claiming that panican lacks creativity. Some are even writing that it's the worst term that Trump, a man who is known for his catchy nicknames for political opponents, has ever come up with.

Others, namely Trump supporters like Marjorie Taylor Greene, have adopted the term as a new insult for Trump detractors.

The nickname is also being used as a meme already, with some examples seeing it being worked into famous movie scenes, the names of characters and being defined in new ways.
