The platforming game Geometry Dash has a massive online fanbase, where players share levels, compete for high scores and communicate through memes. Recently, a mod for the game called "Click Between Frames," or "CBF," has caused some drama in the community, with some believing that using the mod is cheating. Now, a level creator has found a way to block players from using the mod, resulting in the massive "CBF Detected" meme on Reddit. Here's what you need to know.

What Is The 'CBF Detected' Meme?

Earlier this year, a modder released the "Click Between Frames" mod for Geometry Dash. This mod allows players to "click between frames," which, put simply, allows players to register more clicks per second in the game. Traditionally, Geometry Dash limits clicks per second to your framerate. With this mod, clicks are limited by how fast you can click your mouse or keyboard. For a game like Geometry Dash, which requires speed and accuracy, this makes the experience smoother and helps players with low-end devices and low framerates play comfortably.

The mod has proven controversial over the past few months, leading to debates over whether or not it's cheating. Generally, however, the mod has been embraced by players and level hosts, including the Global Demonlist, which hosts and tracks high scores for some of the game's most challenging levels.

In September 2024, the notably difficult level "Nullscapes" was verified by its creator and made available to the public. However, players who attempted the level with the CBF mod installed were met with a notice reading, "CBF DETECTED, LOSER! CLICK BETWEEN FRAMES IS ILLEGITIMATE AND WILL NOT BE ALLOWED FOR USE IN NULLSCAPES." The community at large was not too happy with this and turned it into a meme.

How Is 'CBF Detected' Used In Memes?

The "CBF Detected" warning went viral in the Geometry Dash community, especially on the /r/geometrydash subreddit. This led to memes, where the warning message is photoshopped into or otherwise referencing in games and applications completely unrelated to Geometry Dash_. Some popular examples include Club Penguin, Minecraft and "_Roblox":https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/roblox.

While not everyone seems to agree on whether or not the CBF mod is fair, most people seem to agree that banning someone from playing a level because they use CBF is unfair. Essentially, the memes are being used to protest Nullscapes' creator's decision to do this. The meme quickly spread outside of the Geometry Dash community to other gaming subreddits, helping increase awareness of the issue to anyone else who might care.
