About
CBF Detected, or the Nullscapes CBF Blocker, is a series of Geometry Dash memes in which a warning label reading, "CBF Detected, Loser!" is photoshopped into screenshots of video games, warning players that they cannot play the game without uninstalling the Click Between Frames mod. The meme was popularized in the Geometry Dash community, particularly on Reddit, in early September 2024 after it was found that attempting to play the level Nullscapes with the Click Between Frames mod enabled, which allows for faster clicking, resulted in the warning and disallowed users from playing the level.
Origin
In April 2024, the Click Between Frames (CBF) mod for Geometry Dash was released by syzzi.[1] The mod allows players to "click between frames." Without the mod, Geometry Dash limits the speed at which players can click based on their framerate, capping the maximum number of inputs per second to 240 if you're playing at 240 FPS or above. The mod does not limit the clicks by framerate, but by device (mouse or keyboard), meaning players can achieve much higher inputs per second.
The release of the mod sparked many debates in the GD community. Some believe that using the mod is cheating, while others find it legitimate and especially helpful for those with lower-end devices that can't achieve a high FPS. In April 2024, the Global Demonlist,[2] a site that hosts and tracks scores for the most challenging GD levels, approved the use of the mod for official scores,[3] a move that sparked increased debates.[4]
On June 23rd, the PointerCrate Demonlist approved the use of the mod.[10]
On September 3rd, 2024, GD players noticed that, if they attempted to play the level Nullscapes using CBF, an error message popped up reading, "CBF DETECTED, LOSER! CLICK BETWEEN FRAMES IS ILLEGITIMATE AND WILL NOT BE ALLOWED FOR USE IN NULLSCAPES. PLEASE DISABLE THE MOD IN ORDER TO CONTINUE PLAYING." The level, which was verified a day prior on September 2nd, is unplayable until CBF is deleted. The earliest known user to post the screenshot of the error message is X[5] user @StarkyTheSalab, who posted it on September 3rd, garnering over 500 likes in two days.
Spread
The Nullscapes warning message gained viral spread in the GD community. For example, on September 3rd, 2024, it was reposted to /r/geometrydash,[6] garnering over 460 upvotes in two days.
Soon, members of the community began using varying versions of the warning label as an exploitable and reference in memes, photoshopping it into games unrelated to GD. On September 4th, Redditor u/Lisa-Marie-Simpson posted an edit of a Discord error message referencing the CBF detected label to /r/geometrydash,[7] garnering over 1,700 upvotes in a day.
The meme also spread to other subreddits. For example, that same day, a version of the meme was posted to /r/OMORI[8] that gained over 1,000 upvotes in a day.
On September 5th, u/Moon_official890 posted a version of the meme to /r/geometrydash[9] applying the "CBF Detected" warning to a Roblox screen, garnering over 1,000 upvotes in under a day.
