Drama from the niche /r/AirPods subreddit is leaking across the site, and it's got some Redditors wondering, "Who is Dominic?"

The subreddit recently blew up with memes after a post by a user named Dominic went viral. Now, users are reckoning with the aftermath after Dominic deleted his account due to the memes.

The memes started on May 27th, 2025, when now-deleted Redditor u/ghostboi899 made a seemingly innocuous post to the /r/AirPods subreddit.

In the post, titled "Why does this happen??" the Redditor asked why, when his AirPods case is charging, he can't use his right AirPod. It's a reasonable question, but a detail in the screenshot of his AirPods settings screen caught some users' eyes.

In the screenshot, we can see that u/ghostboi899's AirPods are named, "🌹🧟‍♂️Dominic's AirPods🧟‍♂️🌹." Some people thought the format of the name was funny and began posting parodies of it in the post's comments, elevating the post to over 230 comments and 890 upvotes in roughly a week.

Soon enough, comments using the same format as Dominic's AirPods name started popping up on posts across the subreddit. Unfortunately, Dominic didn't seem to find the memes funny.

He purportedly made a now-deleted post to the /r/PeopleBeingJerks subreddit complaining about it, titled "People mocking their airpods name," but that also quickly filled with the meme.

Some time after this, Dominic deleted his Reddit account entirely, but not before other Redditors could go through his post history.

They found that Dominic had purportedly made posts on the /r/Autism subreddit, suggesting that Dominic is autistic. Some people then made posts wondering if maybe he took the memes so seriously because of his apparent asperger's diagnosis.

This caused some /r/AirPods users to make posts sharing that Dominic has autism as a way of stopping the meme from continuing on the subreddit.

How Is 'Dominic's AirPods' Used In Memes?

The "Dominic's AirPods" meme essentially exists only in the comments of the /r/AirPods subreddit. It involves writing just about any comment in the same formatting as Dominic's AirPods' name. The formatting is a Rose Emoji, then a Zombie Emoji, followed by the comment, then another Zombie Emoji and another Rose Emoji.

While the meme became notably popularized on the subreddit, many users are now trying to put a stop to it after finding out about Dominic's autism diagnosis. These Redditors think the joke went too far when it drove Dominic to delete his Reddit account, with some seeing the continuation of the meme as bullying an autistic person.
