What's The 'MLP Infection?' The 'My Little Pony' Creepypasta That's Gone Viral On TikTok Explained
The My Little Pony fandom has created a new creepypasta centering on alternate universes (AUs) in which an MLP infection has broke out.
Scary fan art and horror animations are trending all over TikTok right now, mostly coming in the form of photo slideshows. The virus that started the lore, called Pestraobia, has since gained multiple copycats as the "MLP Infection AU" trend sweeps the internet.
So, who started the MLP Infection trend? What's the original AU and how has the meme developed? Let's explain.
Who Started The 'MLP Infection' Trend?
In December 2023, a Russian TikToker named @osushat posted the first known MLP Infection slideshow that outlined the health stats of multiple My Little Pony characters. The disturbing yet creative visuals spawned the Pestraobia virus and identified Starlight Glimmer as patient zero.
What Is Pestraobia?
Pestraobia, as stated by TikToker @osushat, is a "flesh and mind eating disease" that started as a common cold. The virus is identifiable via various symptoms like insanity, rotting flesh and hostility.
What's Some 'MLP Infection' Art?
The creepypasta has since sparked an onslaught of fan art and animations that further the growing lore. Some are making analog horror videos that outline gameplay akin to the scary idea. Others are drawing comics that outline scenes where one pony discovers that the other is infected.
As the trend becomes more mainstream, spreading to various social media sites like Twitter / X and DeviantArt, people will surely create more made-up viruses, like the so-called Smile Virus that is already gaining its own cult following online.
