Who Is 'Marcus The Worm?' The Mysterious 'VRChat' Player Going Viral On TikTok Explained

There's a VRChat player named Marcus the Worm who is making viral waves on TikTok and Twitch lately.
He walks around in an odd, yet mesmerizing way, talking in a deep, text-to-speech voice that echoes throughout the virtual reality (VR) video game. His clips are accruing a cult fandom over on TikTok, all because streamer Roflgator keeps talking to him about his lost friend "Jimbo James."
However, the identity of Marcus the Worm's player is unknown, and a lot of other questions surround the mysterious avatar. Let's explain.

Where Did 'Marcus The Worm' Come From?
Back in February, a clip showing Marcus the Worm went viral on TikTok. It showed him at a campfire, interacting with other players in a VRChat world. He spoke slowly in a text-to-speech voice, acting chaotic and strange.
The clip was created by Twitch streamer Roflgator. Marcus was a recurring character in his VRChat livestreams by that point. His chat can be seen spamming a Marcus emote throughout their interaction.
What Is 'VRChat?'
VRChat is a video game where players walk around and interact with other people in a virtual reality (VR) setting. This means donning a VR headset like an Oculus Rift and entering maps where other players are mingling.
The game has been around since 2017 and has gained a large player base and fandom over the years. Many memes have also come from VRChat, like Ugandan Knuckles from its heyday to more recent phenomena like the Lapwing avatar.
Who Is 'Marcus The Worm?'
Unfortunately, the true identity of Marcus the Worm is unknown. There is someone behind the beloved avatar, but they haven't come out of the woodwork yet to claim their fame.
For now, all we know is his avatar's appearance. He's a bipedal worm with arms and legs, and a pair of dark, black eyes popping out of his noggin. He's also got a protruding belly. He's quite gangly in general.
Marcus speaks very slowly and uses physical comedy to make the other players laugh. He's often calling Twitch streamer Roflgator "Robert" or name-dropping his friend Jimbo James, who was allegedly taken hostage by the cartel.

What's The 'Marcus The Worm' Fandom On TikTok?
Roflgator's clips have been attracting a lot of attention on TikTok, so much so that Marcus the Worm has a budding fandom that likes to share fancams and fan art of their favorite freak.
Another prevalent form of Marcus appreciation is sharing "Core" edits of the creature. He's already got so many iconic clips and catchphrases at this point, so it makes the format easy.
