If you’re familiar with the nature of most MMOs, you’ll know that the dreaded “content drought” between major updates, expansions or DLC can be rough on a playerbase with nothing to do. In these circumstances, players either leave to enjoy other games or get creative with new ways to spend their time — as seen with one particularly inventive World of Warcraft player recently.

WoW is currently in the midst of a content drought with Shadowlands, its upcoming expansion, still a couple of months out. During this lull, a Redditor by the name of Fumbleturkey has spent the downtime creating some hilarious and ingenious mods that revamp the classic RPG into a number of first-person simulators based on other video games, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator.

By using the UI-editing mod WeakAuras, Fumbleturkey has managed to whip together a slew of recreated games inside WoW’s engine. Originally, the experiment began in early September when he first used WeakAuras to add custom animations for the mage class, complete with a spellbook for abilities, casting spells and riding on mounts, which was then posted to the /r/wow subreddit.

Since then, Fumbleturkey has recreated Microsoft Flight Simulator, now dubbed Warcraft Flight Simulator, the underwater adventure game Subnautica, Farming Simulator and even a first-person hunting sim with custom skinning animations.

Each of these posted to /r/wow have accumulated thousands of upvotes and numerous Reddit awards, so even if they are simplistic, fans have shown genuine interest in the possibilities he’s shown with WoW’s customization power, which could lead to full-blown, first-person versions of the game’s classes down the line.

The animations are obviously a bit goofy, but that humorous nature makes them all the more special. If you’re curious about seeing the rest of these mods, you can check out his profile on Reddit or see all the videos on his YouTube channel. We expect there’ll be more to come as well.
