About

Farming Simulator is a video game series in which players grow crops and breed animals to sell in order to expand a virtual farming business. In early 2019, the game's developer Giants Software announced a new eSports league for the video game series.

History

In 2008, Farming Simulator 2008 was released as the first game in the series (shown below). Over the next 10 years, 17 other editions of the game were released, with Farming Simulator 18 released on June 6th, 2017 for Nintendo 3DS, iOS, Android and PlayStation Vita devices.



Farming Simulator League

On January 23rd, 2019, the Farming-Simulator[3] blog announced that Giants Software had created the Farming Simulator League eSports competition for the game. The 2019 league would consist of 10 tournaments across Europe, with teams competing for a total prize pool of 250.000€. On January 24th, Twitter published a Moments[1] page titled "Farming Simulator is getting its own esports league."

Online Presence

On October 26th, 2012, the /r/FarmingSimulator[2] subreddit was launched, which gathered upwards of 14,700 members over the next seven years. On October 30th, 2015, YouTuber RDAllen uploaded an unboxing video setting up a steering wheel controller to be used on Farming Simulator (shown below, left). Within four years, the video gained upwards of 15 million views and 2,500 comments. On April 26th, 2017, YouTuber Daggerwin uploaded footage of a 20-wheeled tractor in Farming Simulator 17 (shown below, right).
