Introducing New KYM User Titles

I don't know why people downvoted Garlic/Chris, unless they're giving him grief over his past actions. If we focus on the present, he's got some good suggestions, although they may be difficult to implement.

Since I know everyone was waiting with baited breath for me to give my two cents… I like these new titles, but I agree with some of the things that have been said in criticism.

1) A thousand posts does seem like a short place to cut off ranks, especially seeing as there are many, many users already well beyond that. I couldn't guess what would really be appropriate, but I'm going to suggest putting in at least one rank that is a level nobody has presently achieved.

2) Very minor point, and I don't know whether I should even bring it up since Katie didn't (although she may be acting uncharacteristically modest), but does Katie have to give up her "Over 9000!!!" title? I think there are a few other people with special titles, although I don't know what happened with them.

3) Entry editor ranks are inherently going to be difficult to figure out, since yes, it should be based on quality rather than quantity, but there's no way to automate that. (Really, shouldn't all the ranks be based on quality? Too bad.) I do think however if it hasn't already been worked into the system, there should be a difference in being an editor of a meme depending on if it's Confirmed/Researching/Deadpooled.

4) In having three different ranking scales, you might want to consider either listing out ranks or allowing people to choose which rank gets displayed. While as a moderator, apparently I'm stuck that way (and it makes sense), if I were a regular user, I'd probably be a "Conversationalist", when I'd much rather be known as a "Researcher".

I've always wanted to see a piechart of the types of contributions a user makes so that you can get a feel for what kind of stuff they do the most, at a glance.

Something like this:

Also, I included James' mockup of the proposed Karma update which I love. And I thought it might be cool to list a user's join date rather than just saying "about 2 years ago" for those that REALLY want to get into the newfag/oldfag pissing contests. ;)

I know this is veering off topic from just the titles, but I couldn't resist fleshing some ideas out.

No idea why you're downvoted for this. I'd actually like to see all of these happen on profiles.

Also, something which isn't necessary in any way shape or form, but might be cool to be able to see: A ratio for the number of upvotes and downvotes a person gives.

I have an idea! I remember a long long time ago I used to play a lame game by Zynga. It was something about getting ranks and stuff, and there are a lot of ranks that you can get, and you can freely switch in between. So, say some one's gotten the required for, say Researcher, Commentator and Collector, then there will be a scroll down menu in his own dashboard, with these choices.

Like this:

Mr. Example
>Researcher
>Commentator
>Collector

And say he chose Collector that day. This will be shown under his name, and only that. Afterward he can change it to the others. The only problem is that it can only show one title…..

The pie chart looks great, and right now you can hover over the join date to see a UTC timestamp.

I think showing the number of upvotes/downvotes a user has given is a great idea.

how about there are specialty categories, where you pick your category (editor, researcher, commenter, or contribooter) and then you progress along that pathway.

I think this is a good plan, particularly the second and fourth points. I'd rather be known by my contributions outside of the forums, instead of just being a lowly "Commentator".

could we have a system where your category or rank depends on the TYPE of forum you post in. Researchers could have the Meme Research threads, Forum commenters could have the General and Just for fun threads giving them credit, and Mediaphiles could have… well, they could just have uploads. I know i post in forums a lot, but man, i only post a lot in site related and research threads.

Dude, I am not tripping. Why do you guys seem to have problems with me making suggestions?

He's just making a joke. You know how Alex is….

Why does it not surprise me that you're the one who posted this?
Also, I can't think of much of anything to say, so I'll just say that Taryn said something to me that you also said to me. Maybe you two are of alike mind?

Info about karma given and pie charts for contributions in profiles?

Do want.

Seems nice, but it also seems like more of a reason to remove editorships from the count.
It's kind of like counting the amount of threads someone's posted in; that itself isn't the contribution.

wait a minute….

My profile glitched. It says i only have 66 edits, but that's how many i had on the justin bieber page alone. Did this happen to anyone else? I should be a researcher or something.

Editorialships are what makes KYM…….or why is it called "Internet meme Database?

I only see 17 edits.
