Teaser Trailer:

One day, I was thinking:

"Why should I have to work by myself on KYM projects that I'll probably never deliver and only less than 50 people will see, when I could work on it with the fellow memefriends of KYM themselves, so we can make this a group effort to get these projects finally delivered and seen by more people?"

So, I thought up eight projects (some which are based on old ideas of mine from as early as 2010) that we could all do together to help make these forums gre- active again. This is the first. Okay, so who here remembers the KYM episodes? Of course you do, they're still linked right next to the "Memes" button. Well, they stopped being officially made in 2012, due to possible budget constraints. Let's put a stop to that stop, full stop. (For you blood-thirsty Americans, a "period" is what a "full stop" is.)

Back when KYM was owned by Rocketboom, they actually re-uploaded people's home-made KYM episodes for a while. I don't see that happening under the current owners, so don't get your hopes up that this will be made official or frontpaged, anything. This is just for fun, non-commercial, educational and recreational purposes.

At the moment, I only have a test render and monotone script reading of an early version of the first episode. You can watch it in action here:

As you can hear, my voice does not fit this type of video, so I will be looking for replacements in this thread.

Also, I'll definitely be replacing the storyboard-looking art images with animations and filling in all the blank bits with some extra images and videos for the final version, of course.

As this project is heavily based on properties which we do not own (such as Know Your Meme), and the videos will use several clips and images created by other people (for educational purposes), we cannot make any money from this project and I can not give out any money to people from this forum who help out. Also FYI, you don't even get money for writing entries on this site anyway, so there.

However, stay tuned for the other projects I have coming up, that will offer Steam games and other rewards!

For this project, I'm currently looking for help with things like:
– getting a new voice actor for Deadpool-kun
– writing the scripts for future episodes
– making sure everything looks right

If you can help with these, you will be credited in the video's credits for all eternity. To help, just post what you want to do to help and then do it (for example, "i want to be deadpool-kun's voice [insert link to recording of the script]"). Remember, this is a group effort, so continually post here, and in the KYM IRC, so that we are all up to date on what we're all doing.

It was decided and finalized by the KYM IRC and Skype groups. You can find it at:
The KYM April 2016 Projects Page

This will update with links to the final episodes, as they get completed throughout the year.

…judging by the first sentence alone, I can tell you did not read everything in the first post of this thread.

WTF, man?

Nah, I read everything. I just lost hope of getting a new KYM episode a long time ago.
goes into a corner and sobs in sadness

I must say I'm impressed, NeonWabbit.
Great job on that and yeah, I hope there will be some submissions to go through.
As a matter of fact, even if I can't get it started as early as I wanted to, I'm trying to do something similar for a while now, in French with english subtitles.
But meh… technical constraints are a bitch.

Well, that's where this thread comes in, sonny jim. There's no point in sobbing in a corner when the oppurtunity to make our own KYM episodes is right here and right now.

i could help with scripts or something, maybe do dumb photoshops if that’s needed

Thanks guys! I should probably post the current script for the first episode, so people don't have to keep transcribing what they hear in the animatic video in the "What is done so far?" spoiler, and so we can make any necessary changes.

I'll do that later today.

I've considered doing something similar in the past, although I never got around to it. With summer coming up I'll probably have a decent amount of free time if you need help editing (I have Premiere, but never used it, but I have Final Cut and AVID experience). If you're interested in having stuff like interviews with someone related to whatever memes we're working on, I can try to be the person who reaches out to them.

I'd love to help out with the script and stuff, since i am free 3 times a week. Alongside that my semester break is creeping in which would give me more time to help. I really want to see this project succeed.

I would like to help you out writing the Cena episode since there is a huge difference in how he is perceived from wrestling fans to non-wrestling fans, and as I am a veritable encyclopedia of wrestling myself.

I'd also like to provide VO for said episode. I will PM you a link in the next couple of days to my demo reels so you can hear for yourself what I'm like.

Don't forget guys, there's more to making a video than just a script. Not only that, but too many cooks spoil the broth.

While life is keeping me too busy to be any big help for your project, I think my experience in writing, well, a ton of entries on our site, can be an asset in writing a summary of the info available while at the same time keeping it entertaining and in tone with the site.

At the very least, proofreading is easily doable to me. If you're representing the site, someone who knows the ins and outs can help to make certain no script writer goes crazy.

I still really like how the alumni explained Creepy-Chan in their episodes. It has all the info, yet tells you what makes her case so amazing.

However, concern is necessary. Neon, to what extend are you able to see this project through to the end; especially considering this is project "1 of 8"?

I know you are optimistic, but we both know how infamous the completion rate of your projects has become (I might be wrong, but I think we're still at 0).

If this is your project, the completion of it is your concern. But if you want to make this big and site related, I hope you can understand my worries. Nobody here wants to be left with everyone hyping up over something that fizzles out.

At the very least, it appears cool, so have a Feature.

[concerns]

Thank you for raising these concerns so that I can address them. First off, not all of the projects will require as much effort as this one. In fact, one project included in the eight just requires people to list their top 15 favourite Muse songs, and then project is considered finished as I already have written complete lyrics for parodies of every single Muse song and will just need to record and bundle up the average top 15 into an album (a la 2014's NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL GETTING MEMED ON, an example of a project I completed already).

Another project in the eight is just a creative writing exercise where people are encouraged to write stories or draw comics based on KYMcon 2016 materials that I will provide (schedules, event booklets, videos, advert pamphlets, fake interviews, etc.) and the top person who creates their own content based on mine will win Steam games or money.

KYM Projects I made which I do consider finished are Emem Ruoy Wonk 1, 2 and 3 (2010-2012) and KYM Thread Sims v1 and v2 and the first half of v3 (2011-2013) and others which I have listed on my profile. I know these examples of completion are years old, but that's because I have just been using the time since then to lay down the ground work for these eight projects and you should know that I will not start any new projects or continue any projects outside these eight projects until these eight are in a complete state, or at least as complete as they're gonna get.

For this thread's project especially, you can see the first episode in a near complete state via that animatic video in the "What is done so far?" spoiler. All it needs is new narration, a limited amount of animation (think Super Planet Dolan's style of animation), and just a little more graphics and videos to pad out the blank areas.

Once again, thanks to all the people who offered to help so far. Script writers – If you can, you should get started writing scripts for the other episodes right now, and submit them here, so any necessary changes and improvements can be made. The episode list is in the OP. For anyone who wants to replace my voice (heard in the animatic), you can post a demo of your voice. Remember that you need to do 13 episodes and they will take a long time to put together, so you need to stay active on KYM for a while.

As promised, here is the script I read from while recording the animatic audio:

Note that there are a few minor differences between this and the recording I used. While we're still waiting for a replacement voice, if anyone wants to edit/improve this script in any way: copy it, change it, then post the new one back in here.

Soon, I will add a new forum/IRC chat channel on my website, so that we can stay more organized. I'll keep you posted on that.

The forum is live.

Please sign up and submit your work via threads in the appropriate section. Need new sections to seperate audio posts from script posts? Make a thread saying so in the "Suggestions" section. Note that I will need to manually activate your account before you can post (to prevent spambots), so if you are going to use a username different to your KYM one, please state it in this thread you're reading now.

Okay, daily update time! These daily updates will not stop until the first episode is out the door, so if we all don't stop procrastinating and start doing, then, you'll be seeing a lot of this thread popping up every day from now on.

First off, we finally have a voice for the main narrator – Deadpool-kun. It's ArchaicEX! You may remember him from the KYMcast podcast. If you still want to submit a voice, then it will be to replace Longcat, or any of the other KYM-tan universe characters.

There seems to be a lot of silence from most of you who said they were going to help, and some people like TripleZ said they would only help on this project once the first episode is delivered, so if that's what everyone is waiting for, then I could see that happening THIS UPCOMING WEEK, most likely.

Alright, let's start seeing some more posts on the forums linked in the post above the post above this one, if you want to help before then. Thanks everyone!

Okay, daily update.

Just waiting on ArchaicEX to provide the final recording for episode 1, and waiting on literally everyone else to provide any scripts, big or small, for the later episodes. Just any sort of writing at all please. Just get it done and posted.

Tips for writing a community-made KYM episode script:
– have an intro and outro semi-related to the episode where KYM-tan (who is mute), Deadpool-kun (the main narrator), Longcat (the secondary narrator) and Don (also mute) interact with each other
- watch the offical episodes on the KnowYourMeme YouTube channel for inspiration
- it is okay to include facts that aren't in the entries yet, but are still verifiable

Okay you have everything you need now! Get to it!

You know, I think we now have everything for the first episode, and it can be released at the end of this week, if there are no futher objections.

Well done to the 3 people who actually helped. You know who you are!

Sorry for the week-long silence. Daily updates are now Weekly updates because this thread is not as active as I hoped it would be. This is not your fault. I get that we can all get lazy sometimes and lose interest in things, but that's okay, because due to my constant prodding, we still managed to get a voice for the main narrator Deadpool-kun (ArchaicEX) and Asdfghjkl even provided a few ideas for the finale episode… and that's basically all the help I got. Still, I do hope other people can get in here and help, so please do! Post something… ANYTHING, and if it actually is helpful, you will be credited in the videos for all eternity! How neat is that?

As for this first episode not releasing last week, this is due to copyright issues and also some frames not playing properly during the animated intro and outro segments. Rather than release the episode as-is, I have to postpone it, because I didn't draw those frames for nothing! Entirely my fault I know. Now that there isn't a deadline for posting the episode, I can schedule a livestream where I stream the episode for the first time and also we can play some Jackbox Party Pack, so you can all chat about the episode LIVE and spam the live chat with your Twitch emotes or whatever.

In the meantime, as this thread you're reading is only for helping out with the project, there is a place you can discuss the episode before it goes live. (Hint: It's reddit.)

Bet you didn't expect this thread to pop up again.

The first episode WILL come out this week because it's literally complete now.

Episodes 2 to 13 still need writers.

In the meantime, please take a look at the first 45 seconds of Episode 1 and be sure to provide feedback if you can!

With love and thanks,
Neon

I had this similar idea, Neon.

I've ALWAYS wanted more episodes because it was the first Internet Scientists that drew me to the site in the first place, also cause it's alot more enjoyable than reading entries to me.

I seriously (and still am) tried to bring up this idea tons of times and even would be an actor/scientist because i feel I'd be most helpful that way because i do have experience in front of a camera and i don't suck ass :^). But the only way i would do that is if i would get payed because also what RandomMan said that my life is keeping me busy and thats just being realistic.

But what i have seen so far is a great concept and you have my support 100%.

I guess PM me or post here if you can think of anything you need help for. I'm not THAT busy it's just i need to make money first, you feel me?

Keep this thread alive though!!!
