Guys I got a idea for Minecraft…How about we make a Mechwarrior mod? I been trying to figure out how to code but I been having a hard time to figure somethings out…and I'm afraid that's not a hard part. The trick will be the models.

  • I'm thinking of making the first model possible typical model that any of you may choose "The Mad Cat" But I do not know how to model.
  • I do not know how to edit models to make them move in the motion of a mad cat.
Guys if any of you are good at editing or making mods or any of that. Can you please assist me if possible?
    Because think about it:
    Pros:
  • You can drive a mech and shoot holes in mountains or hills.
  • You can make arenas to fight with friends.
  • If you can really help we can have ALL of the mechwarrior models fully functioning.
  • We can make it creeper proof of course.
  • It will be albe to walk over square ledges that are 1 block high as if it's a ramp.
    Cons:
  • It will most likely require a lot of iron or a lot of parts ontop of that.
  • It will be difficult to make most likely.
I really want some help because it will be a epic win to bring Mechwarrior into a world that you can build anything and everything.
    JUST SO MANY ACTIVITIES!

I might be able to make all the models for it though making a mod like that is very difficult and time consuming.

You would need 1-2 modelers, a programmer, a uv/texture artist, and I'm assuming an animator who can convert the scripts, models, and animations into the appropriate format for use within the game.

I barely know how to do the basic forms of coding and I am having a hard time finding people to help out.
But do you play minecraft at all?
I can really use some people to help me on the project and like to know how to make models because only I know how to code (barely) and yet some how people use codes to make models and do cannot see the models either.
If you ask me:
This is going to be hard as hell. Can you help if you can?

I'll help if you can find enough people to get the job done but not until then. I've worked on too many games that have fallen apart simply because of a lack of programmers.

Also I haven't played minecraft but I get the concept.

I mean it would be great if there were Mechwarriors as mobs as well (and very dangerous). I played it sense I was young too. I am a Mechwarrior fan same with my brothers.

I thank you for your support and you need to get the game too it's awesome.
So far the closes I have seen to Mechwarrior on minecraft is the tank mod. I really want to know how they manage to make those tank models.

But I really appreciate support. I am not good at getting jobs done but I am a man of great ideas!
I just have trouble making them reality…

Okay!
So I found a program called "Techne" for minecraft and so far I been working on making a model of a mad cat I only got the top torso done so far but I will work on the legs then figure out how to do the animation which would be hard.
But here is some pictures:

The cockpit is the hardest for me to get done, yes I will fill the holes up and try to make it look better after I'm done making the entire design.
Now off I go to work on the legs of the mech!
(Tell me what do you think of this so far).

It's called Techne it's meant for minecraft. It is made for making minecraft mobs really.
You can look it up and check it out on google if you want. You can do animation for it's movements.

Let me rephrase: Can you import object files from actual 3d modeling programs?

I think you can I'm just assuming because it does have something called "Import from" under the file menu once you pull it up.
The program is quite easy to use.

New dev blog up on the official website detailing things like Loyalty points and factional warfare:

http://mwomercs.com/news/2011/12/44-dev-blog-1-community-warfare

Seems pretty cool but it seems to me that it's a bit difficult just to round up your mates for a game. You all need to support the same House or form a Merc Group that supports a house to advance in the game. There really isn't any advantage to being a lone wolf.

Like….in World of Tanks, it didn't matter if you used Russian, German or American tanks, you can all still be on the same team and fight with each other and earn XP and credits but in MWO you have to all agree before hand who to fight for.

Ric Te$l@ wrote:

sorry for the delayed response, tech school finals are a bitch.

The model looks great but I think the center part of the torso with the cockpit should be blockier. It simply looks too rounded for minecraft.

I'm firing up Techne now and i'll see what I can do with it.

Ah okay gotcha, Sorry for the delayed response also I am being told from what a lot of my research said that I need to code it to do the animation…Making the skin would be a bitch too…

Do you know if the whole model needs its own UV map and texture or if you just texture each cube individually? If you can do them individually that will save a ton of time.

New interview on MWO. This time its with loremaster Randall Bills. He has a pretty amusing story of how he was a fanboy turned employee at FASA. Interesting stuff.

That's great! You gonna add some weathered textures or paint schemes?

I think flyingdebris is really great at keeping the "boxy" designs of the 80's mechs and modernizing while still keeping the boxiness. :D

I'd rather have a tank than a Mech to be blunt about it.

Did anyone ever enjoy Front mission 3?

Yes, I will add some weathering effects. At the moment it only has a procedural color texture and a bump map so I still need to uv it and give it some normal maps.

I love Fly Debris' redesigns. They resemble the originals yet they are completely different and interesting.

A tank would probably be best in most situations realistically. Its treads could handle more weight, have greater stability, and allow it to move faster. The only real advantages a mech has are that it would be able to move over a greater variety of terrain and use "shock and awe" tactics against enemy forces.

i haven't played Front Mission 3 but I have heard good things about it.

In the Battletech and Mechwarrior canon, Tanks are still viable weapons of war and have a decent chance of killing Mechs.

NECROMANCY MAGIC GO!!!

Big Q&A regarding community warfare on MWO. My choice selections are:

How large are you planning to make match sizes in terms of number of players? 4 vs 4, 8 vs 8…etc. –Red Beard

[MATT C] The current plan is for a maximum of 12 vs. 12 so long as we can ensure a solid play experience for that many players, otherwise we would fall back to 8 vs. 8.

This is a question I was wondering as well

How will it still be desireable for someone, to play as a Lone Wolf when there is no special content to be earned that way, or is there going to be other stuff which only a Lone Wolf can acquire? –Sesambrot

[BRYAN] While Lone Wolves do not participate in the faction aspect of MWO’s community warfare, they will play an integral role in lending their services to faction and merc units. Post launch, we plan to give lone wolf players a broader set of roles in the universe.

Will planetary control come down to one/a few games, or will taking over a planet require much more time…like 20 games? –Cyttorak

[MATT C] At launch planetary control will consist of single matches though over time we intend to add support for sequenced matches.

BP's note: I'm guessing early rushes will be very important in the metagame before everything grinds down to 20+ match tournaments.

This is a question about loyalty decay. If you don't log in for a while, you will lose Loyalty Points with your factions and have to re earn them.

Why is Loyalty decay needed in the first place, and what plans are there to safeguard the interests of a player who's real life interferes with his ability to continuously gain Loyalty? –jojobear

[PAUL] I’ll try to cover this in as much detail as I can since it’s a burning topic in the forums. Loyalty decay is something that we want to implement to reward players who are truly dedicated to the game. This is not a measure of passion or loyalty to the game but a mechanic to keep the top tiers of player ranking in a highly competitive state.

I’m going to take a step back and explain the 3 underlying systems that equate to player progression. These systems are Pilot Leveling, Mech Leveling and Faction Leveling.

Pilot Leveling – Experience Points (XP) are rewarded for in-game actions and completion of objectives and winning matches. XP is a running accumulator that does not decay or take anything you’ve earned away. This is the same mechanic found in most games that have an XP leveling system. We’ve added a slight modification to this system in which you can train your pilot using the XP you’ve earned.

Mech Leveling – You earn Mech XP (MXP) for some in-game actions and match wins. This information is stored on a per chassis basis. Similar to the Pilot Tree, BattleMechs have an efficiency tree. Mech XP is used to purchase these efficiencies.

Faction Leveling – For certain in-game actions and fighting for a specific House, you will earn Loyalty Points (LP). LP does start to decay after a grace period of in-activity. Accumulating LP allows you to get a military rank within the House you’re being loyal to. The ranks in a House give you benefits and rewards that vary as you climb the military tree.

Now concerning Rank and Loyalty Point Decay…

Once you have achieved a rank, you keep that rank and all of its benefits… PERMANENTLY. Loyalty Decay starts to happen when you as the player have become in-active for a long period of time. Yes, there is a grace period during with Loyalty Decay will not happen. We fully understand that not all players will be able to play every day and we take this into account with this said grace period.

If you as the player are MIA for an extended period of time, it is understandable that you lose loyalty with the House you are representing. While you may lose loyalty, you do not lose your benefits and rewards. Let’s say for example that you’ve reached the rank of Captain and have 5,000 LP. If your extended leave causes decay to kick in, you will not lose the rank of Captain. Instead, what will happen is, your rank will change to Honorary Captain. Now let’s assume that you are away for so long that your LP has dropped to 3,000 LP. In order to remove the “Honorary” part of your rank, you’ll have to gain 2,000 LP. All the while, you will NOT lose access to the rewards and benefits of a regular Captain. As a Captain, you would have been entitled to X C-bills as a salary per day as long as you logged in. As an Honorary Captain, your salary will be reduced slightly but returns to full once you become an active Captain again.

One last point, Rank does NOT equal command during a match. You do not get to tell people what to do because you’re senior rank, you do not make important faction calls, etc. Rank is purely a reward system for consistent and successful gameplay.

What if we gave a tank legs with treads for feet?

Where is you're god now?

But, like what if they folded into a regular tank, and like drove, and then you would get the advantage of a tank, with the advantage of being able to elevate yourself above walls, and other small things, or maybe even use them for coverz?!?

Well….if you're using a wall as cover and going over it….how can you shoot down at people hiding behind walls as well? If they're higher than you….then you cover really isn't that useful since they can shoot down at you.

But in reality, Tanks are at their best shooting at each over open plains from 2km distances. Getting them inside a city or other built up areas only renders them vulnerable to infantry with anti-tank munitions.

In the 2006 Israeli Lebanese War, Hezbollah light infantry destroyed two Merkava tanks (some of the most heavily protected tanks in the world) and disabled nearly 50 more with advanced Russian man portable anti-tank launchers like the RPG-29 and the Kornet missile that can penetrate over 1000mm of Rolled Homogeneous steel plate (That's over 3 feet of steel protection!)

And besides, Tank designers are scared of even having a small slit for the driver to look through because it weakens the armour, that's how serious they take any chink.

Ah forgot this:

New Mech design: The classic catapult.

And the old design for comparison.

Also, there's a pony reference in the fictional press release:
http://mwomercs.com/news/2011/12/70-battlemech-5-catapult

This report is brought to you by Duralex – Ferrocrete Solid, and Ponyt Ale – Start A Friendship!

Damn, it's been a while since I've been here.

The Dragon and the Catapult look awesome – my favorite mech is the Mad Cat Mk. II, but the Catapult is easily one of the coolest-looking war machines I've seen, ever.

Go go MWO, keep making more of these steel beasts.

Only if I knew how you got models to animate like that, I have yet to figure out how to code my minecraft mechwarrior mech to move at all. I am crap when it comes to coding.

I don't know how to code either. The way that videogame animations and movie animations are made are very different.

Well excuse the necropost but my World of Tanks Binge has made me forget a bit about Mechwarrior Online.

But….

This might just be the best redesign yet!

The Centurion honestly looks like a Gundam to me. What with it being colored white and having a humanoid shape it just kind of gives off a Gundam vibe.

Off to check up on wazzup since MWO.

Yeah…I can see the resemblance.

Thankfully, the Centurion looks blocky enough to be in the Battletech world :P

Your mechs are improving, they move with more weight now than they did before when they kinda seemed to be very light. Good job!

Oh BTW, new Mechwarrior Tactics game announced:

http://www.mwtactics.com/

However, it's being made by the studio making Family Guy Online so it'll prolly be a browser based social game or something :/
