Hey, I'm running around the forums for 14 hours a day and it seems like people are only here in the morning. I noticed that once we made the new forums, there have been a spike in entries and a drop in forum activity. So, yeah, let's be active more.

SIte activity waxing/waning generally is pretty normal. Hoping the new board structure is not hurting participation, or if it is, at least it's worth it

Cool idea to graph forum/entry/comment activity by hour…

Here are the rough per-day graphs for the last 60 day (e.g. far right is today, far left is 60 days ago)

More posts≠better forum. We don't want the forum to be flooded with useless posts, now.
Personally, I like it the way it is. The spamming/flooding is mostly confined to the "Just for Fun" board, and the rest is srs business. Just because it's not as active as it once was doesn't mean that it's not as good as it used to be.
Also, since we've got the IRC, there's not a lot of incentive to use the forum over that. While the forum does have its advantages, the fastest way to get something done is through the IRC and I think the users are realizing this. This should be viewed as a good thing, though. It keeps the boards cleaner, and reduces spamming/flooding. Another great thing about the IRC is that we can review entries quicker than ever before, hence the reducing number of entries in submissions lately. It allows us to deadpool useless entries quicker, and get massive amounts of research done through real-time collaboration.
While the forum is still an important part of the community, it's not the only part of the community.

Shadowfury's right. Since the users figured out that the IRC chatroom is the fastest way to get things done, the onslaught of submissions has been less of a problem lately.

I provided a direct link. You need to have a dedicated IRC client to use it.
In retrospect I probably should have provided the link to the embedded IRC. Thanks for posting that, Jostin.
