Turn 11
Middle Ages

Game Notes:
-We have entered the middle ages. No, gunpowder is not available yet. I'll tell you when that happens.
-Due to the extremely long amount of time it took to make this turn, I am no longer accepting new members to this game.

Nations:

Cultures

Religions

Angmar (WitchKing)

Govt: Oligarchy
Army: [===|=======]
Navy: [===|=======]

Tech: [====|======]
-Conscription ends.
-Land which the Huns have left are re-occupied.
-Despite the proven failure of large forts against the horde, more are being built and extended upon around the capital.
-The Huns pass by Angmar, gone for good. And there was much rejoicing.
-Attempts to block off the Byzantines in the Caucasian mountains is a resounding success as the Byzantines don't attempt to move north at all.
-The armies are switching to a larger reliance on mounted archers than footmen.

Cattonia (MadCat)

Govt: Kingdom
Army: [====|======]
Navy: [===|=======]

Tech: [=========|=]
-The armies spread eastward into Ethiopia and Somalia.
-The fleet is expanded, and then sent east towards India with intentions to conquer. A large number of this ships are either scuttled or lost due to distance from friendly ports. The little contact the motherland now has with their foreign army is through merchant ships.

Falconland (DouglasJFalcon)

Govt: Kingdom
Army: [==|========]
Navy: [===|=======]

Tech: [=====|=====]
-Traps are built.
-The Mertolan forces are engaged mostly through a guerrilla warfare style of combat involving traps and ambushes.
-The army is too busy expanding northward to fight the Mertolan horde.
-Longboats are built.
-Attempts are made to use faith as a weapon. Unfortunately, Falconism is not nearly as tangible or sharp as an arrow or a dagger, and all the soldiers sent equipped with religion are brutally massacred.

Fasier (DarkErmac)

Govt: Oligarchy
Army: [==|========]
Navy: [|==========]

Tech: [===|=======]
-Fasier continues pushing towards higher quality of production through the use of furnaces to smelt their metals into usable items.
-A base-8 numeric system is developed for basic mathematics.
-A military school is opened.
-Armies are sent northwest and south to conquer more lands. Military events are recorded in writing as important historical achievements as early historians begin to document the happenings in their world.
-A building known as the "Wise Chamber" is constructed. It has three floors, and houses the three leaders of the nation.

Mertola (RocketPropelledPanda)

Govt: Monarchial Republic
Army: [=========|=]
Navy: [|==========]

Tech: [====|======]
-The horde continues moving into Falconland.
-Primitive anatomical studies begin.
-A horde of leeches and profiteers follow in the wake of the horde of horsemen, looting and pillaging whatever is left, and bringing the goods back home to sell or keep.

Naronius (MisterJ)

Govt: Republic
Army: [===|=======]
Navy: [======|====]

Tech: [=====|=====]
-Westward expansion continues.
-There is a minor conflict over the settling of Vietnam with Imperial China, but the issue is resolved quite quickly when the Han Dynasty crumbles and the region is quite easily corralled under stable Naronian control.
-An invasion of India is launched, and is relatively successful.
-Tea is being cultivated in Taiwan.

Prometheus (Vlad)

Govt: Republic
Army: [======|====]
Navy: [=====|=====]

Tech: [==========|]
-A peace treaty with the Byzantines is agreed to, and there will be no war in the near future between the two nations. They are then politely requested to halt the invasions of Angmar, and the Byzantines politely reply that they aren't invading Angmar.
-Hedjaz and Yemen are invaded. Both quickly collapse.
-Defenses along the northern border consisting of forts and legionary garrisons are constructed.
-The lateen sail is becoming radically more common, and many ships are begining to rely upon wind power alone for propulsion.
-A large observatory is built for observing and documenting regular and abnormal stellar occurrences.

Rossiya (RussianFedora)

Govt: Oligarchy
Army: [===|=======]
Navy: [=|=========]

Tech: [========|==]
-A new army is built, modeling itself after the Promethean legionary cohorts. New modern equipment, such as the crossbow and steel chain mail, are pioneered in this army.
-The navy is also being rebuilt, consisting of massive triremes armed with Greek fire.
-The military is geared heavily towards homeland defense.
-A structure is built for the new library, it is is repopulated with the books brought over from the Rossiyan homeland. It continues to expand its volumes through research and documentation.

Syserror (BSOD)

Govt: Monarchial Republic
Army: [===|=======]
Navy: [=======|===]

Tech: [========|==]
-A new monotheistic faith known as Crashtianity has risen. It has quickly overtaken local polytheistic cults and spread about the south pacific region.
-Oddly enough, Syserror believes that Magwoli still has a nation. Sydney decides to fix the problem by liberating an independent Magwoli nation with a king loyal to Sysseror.
-The lack of a unified Magwoli religion leads to the adoption of Chrashtianity. Quite the opposite of what Syserror tried to do by allowing them to practice their own faith as they pleased.
-An aristocracy of statesman's families rises to royal status, although their powers are heavily checked and controlled by the senate.
-A statue of the Windows 95 logo is constructed. How they hold the flag's separated pixels in the air is something archeologists will ponder in a thousand years or so.

Teclos (QuakerPerez)

Govt: Monarchial Republic
Army: [==|========]
Navy: [=|=========]

Tech: [======|====]
-The conquest of Denmark halts as the Huns invade and rip the Teclo army to shreds.
-After an attempted coup in Iberia is found out, the Romans invade Teclo, seeing them as backstabbing traitors. However, the war doesn't last long as the barbarians at the borders storm over, and completely obliterate the entire Roman structure in Europe.
-An attempt to formulate an alliance with the East Roman Byzantine Empire fails, mostly due to the fact that West Rome was just recently at war with Teclos.
-Christian missionaries successfully convert the invading Visigothic and Vandal barbarians, and help to spread the Teclo language and faith into the Mediterranean.

Vulcan (FridgeLogic)

Govt: Theocratic Republic
Army: [==|========]
Navy: [===|=======]

Tech: [=|=========]
-An army is sent into Pictland. Unfortunately, it is crushed in the hostile terrain by hordes of angry Scotsmen that are tired of being forced from their lands by Vulcans.
-Rumors are that there is an island to the northeast. An expedition returns to say that there definitely is no such island there.
-Vulcans studying the sky have decided that alchemy is stupid and foolish. Alchemists return the insult by declaring that there is nothing in the heavens worth looking at. Musicians decide that musical theory is the one true science.
-A regional capital in Dublin becomes the actual capital city once the Anglo-Saxon-Jute barbarians overwhelm the Vulcans and overtake southeastern Britannia.
-Angles, Saxons, and Jutes, evicted from their homelands by the Huns, have landed in Britannia and overwhelmed the Vulcans. They have settled in the land, claimed it their own, and have even started waging war amongst eachother.

-Attempts are made to use faith as a weapon. Unfortunately, Falconism is not nearly as tangible or sharp as an arrow or a dagger, and all the soldiers sent equipped with religion are brutally massacred.

Dear Douglas,
Please continue to give me your land for relatively no cost at all, k thnx bai.

Note to the map viewers: Avar Khanate should be labelled as the Rouran Khanate. Not gonna bother fixing the map this turn, so I'll just let you know here.

-A new monotheistic faith known as Crashtianity has risen. It has quickly overtaken local polytheistic cults and spread about the south pacific region.

I was just going to rename it, but I guess that works too. All hail the Gods…I mean…GOD of the Great System Error

-Oddly enough, Syserror believes that Magwoli still has a nation. Sydney decides to fix the problem by liberating an independent Magwoli nation with a king loyal to Sysseror.

Still no control over Australia?…but…but there would have still been a civilization there right?…Surely I didn't raze all of the Magwoli towns?…puppet ruler?…I derped didn't I?

Dammit Syserror! Why cant you just move in and occupy the damn land!!!? >.<

-The lack of a unified Magwoli religion leads to the adoption of Chrashtianity. Quite the opposite of what Syserror tried to do by allowing them to practice their own faith as they pleased.

Wow, after all my previously failed conversion attempts I wasn't expecting that.

-A statue of the Windows 95 logo is constructed. How they hold the flag’s separated pixels in the air is something archeologists will ponder in a thousand years or so.

Also what happened to that expedition I sent out to South America…boat sink?

Ah, good point. I suppose most if not all pre-Columbian empires were much closer to the equatorial region. But he'd better be on the lookout for roving hordes of rabid penguins!

Wow, after all my previously failed conversion attempts I wasn’t expecting that.

Monotheism is a wonderful thing isn't it?

Something like that. Ancient migrations of your people has put a few of your culture in Chile, but I am not willing to give you line of sight there because I have my reasons.

Surely I didn’t raze all of the Magwoli towns?…puppet ruler?…I derped didn’t I?

The new Magwoli kingdom is your puppet. I stated that it is loyal to you.

If you looked at the culture map, and payed attention to the Magwoli while it was still a player nation, you'd know that his whole civilization was basically a stone age joke. The population was incredibly spread out, and the "nation" was more of a collection of cooperating fish traders. The "invasions" from Sydney were more like migrations. Take a look at the culture map and you will see how quickly you have moved to overtake the island. Compare it to Europe and Persia, where cultures have barely moved at all since the dawn of the bronze age.

Next turn: "South America is invaded by hordes of rabid penguins. The Fasien people are taken by complete surprise and are near-annihilated."

That's probably what my death message would be if I were to quit/become inactive.

Considering the fact that I'm not kicking anybody for inactivity in this game, I really doubt it.

Four hundred years out of fucking no where.

Fuck this shit I'm movin' west.

@Vulcan/Teclos: EH WHAT? HUNS? I'M SORRY, I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE SOUND OF ALL THOSE PEOPLES TRYING TO DESTROY YOU.

Actually I wasn't planning on conquering the Mygwi (yet), I just want the parts of PNG they don't control.

My priority right now is to strengthen the internal affairs between Syserror and its Ozzie allies.

I'm still thinking my next move over. I'll consider it.

I MEANT to get soldiers from the faith, but syndic read it wrong.

I'd like to make a few notes before I start working on the next turn.

1) There will be a separate map for Britannia due to the sheer number of separate kingdoms there. Until the point comes where only a few nations occupy the vast majority of the island, I will continue using a separate map.

2) Attacking every single one of the new barbarian kingdoms at the same time is a horrible idea and will get you wiped out immediately. I'm especially looking at Vulcan here, but Teclos should also take caution with his actions in future turns.

3) Now that there is more than just one NPC occupying Europe, it would help for most of the players settled in and around the continent to formulate good relations with one or two NPCs to help you take down other nations that are stronger or more numerous than you.

4) It seems that we have been very foggy on diplomacy in the past with regards to NPC nations. To make this clear to you, I will be including a list of NPC allies and enemies in each nation's sheet from now on.

Maybe a "Green Yellow Red" so as to get the idea of their quality of relation?

Good, neutral/tense, hostile/war, respectively?

I will be including a list of NPC allies and enemies in each nation’s sheet from now on.

I like this idea.

Diplomacy has been hard to keep track of. Especially when it forms between player discussion where it can be easily missed

@witch-king: I like the idea, of perhaps a seperate diplomacy map with coloured lines between the nations. However, this simply won't fly. I already have to deal with 17+ layers on this image and would really hate to complicate my job any further. I'll just add diplomacy as a text part for the post.

@fridge-logic: Who, me? Naahhhh. Its easy. Just takes patience.

I just got back from the shops. I'm gonna start writing now. Probably post it in an hour.

I would totally help, but I have no fucking clue how you make such pretty maps anyway.

Turn 12
Middle Ages

Game Notes:
-Britannia has its own map for now.
-Diplomacy with NPC nations will be recorded in your nation sheets. I will not be keeping track of diplomacy between human players.

Britannia

Cultures

Religions

Angmar (WitchKing)

Govt: Oligarchy
Army: [====|======]
Navy: [===|=======]

Tech: [=====|=====]

Allies: Byzantine Empire
Enemies:
-Diplomification is used on the Byzantines successfully. Wishing to defend their eastern regions from attack as they focus on rebuilding the western half of the Roman Empire, they agree to an alliance with Angmar.
-The army is reorganized into volunteer groups and career legions.
-Large land based flamethrowers using the old Greek fire are fitted into the sides of forts and castles.
-Extensive mining operations open.
-A college for the study of human anatomy is opened.

Cattonia (MadCat)

Govt: Kingdom
Army: [====|======]
Navy: [===|=======]

Tech: [=========|=]

Allies:
Enemies:
-A special guild is opened for the national courier service to keep in touch with far flung regions of the empire.
-Heavier armour is becoming common among land forces, and old weapons such as the spear and javelin are being replaced with steel longswords and bows.
-An invasion of Ethiopia occurs, relying heavily upon Somabran mercenaries.
-The westward march continues.

Falconland (DouglasJFalcon)

Govt: Kingdom
Army: [=|=========]
Navy: [===|=======]

Tech: [=|=========]

Allies:
Enemies:
-The army moves back south to combat the Mertolan hordes, albeit fruitlessly. They mainly act as a last ditch offensive to keep the Mertolans away as the royal family and a few elite cohorts flee via longboat to the seas.
-Bringing with them little more than faith and hope, the Falconi people sail for the mystical land known in the legends as "South Africa". Instead, they shipwreck at sea off the coast of the sparsely populated northern Pictland, and begin to resettle there.
-The monotheistic Falconism fits well in tune with Kolinahr, and many ignorant locals believe the two faiths to be one and the same. A few Scottish clans join under the Falconlandic banner.

Fasier (DarkErmac)

Govt: Kingdom
Army: [==|========]
Navy: [=|=========]

Tech: [====|======]

Allies:
Enemies:
-Entertainment comes to life in Fasier as guitars, the flute, and gladiator fights have all taken root in their society.
-The military academy is expanded upon to teach more broad subject matter ranging from architecture to basic literacy.
-The oligarchy is displaced by a new monarchy after two of the three elders’ sudden deaths. The remaining elder’s son is regarded as the first Fasien prince.
-Swordsmanship is becoming popular in the army as this weapon begins to replace its more primitive predecessors.
-The army continues its expansion northward, and as they do, new settlements pop up in their wake.
-A small fleet is built.

Mertola (RocketPropelledPanda)

Govt: Monarchial Republic
Army: [=========|=]
Navy: [|==========]

Tech: [====|======]

Allies:
Enemies:
-New tactics are employed the guarantee a large saturation of attacks against the Falconi. The unrelenting hail of arrows followed up by quick and merciless raids cripples their morale, and breaks the will of Falconland.
-As research into the human body progresses, and primitive anatomical scientific method is developed to minimize the mortality rate of patients.
-A lunar calendar is adopted.
-Rather than loot and pillage the defeated nation, Mertola now instead decides to settle its corpse with their own people to rule over the captured locals.
-Basic medical aid is shared with the Falconi people. Herbs and medical supplies are sent and traded in the newly conquered lands.

Naronius (MisterJ)

Govt: Republic
Army: [===|=======]
Navy: [======|====]

Tech: [=====|=====]

Allies: China
Enemies: Mygwi Confederation, Champa
-The conquest of India continues relatively unopposed.
-Pottery is being used as an art form now, with ceramic sculpture beautifying large towns and temples.
-Singapore is growing in size as trade between the Indians and the Chinese begins to focus more on ocean travel than land routes. As a result of the growth of Singapore, the land route of the silk road is withering, causing economic catastrophe for central asia.

Prometheus (Vlad)

Govt: Republic
Army: [===|=======]
Navy: [====|======]

Tech: [==========|]

Allies:
Enemies:
-As Islam begins its rapid spread throughout the Arabian peninsula, the Promethean military begins losing ground and armies to the new Muslim caliphate by way of conversion or outright conquest. No formal war has occurred, as a majority of the land lost was through peaceful conversion, but the new Caliph is threatening to march on Antioch to unite the two halves of the Muslim world.
-Seeing the rapidly spreading tide of Islam, the senate decides to allow unsuppressed worship and conversion within the republic. However, most of the senate is extremely concerned over a sudden take over that will likely occur, as many districts are calling for a new senatorial election that includes almost exclusively Islamic candidates.
-Many generals have signed their allegiance over to the caliph, and have brought their armies with them.

Rossiya (RussianFedora)

Govt: Oligarchy
Army: [===|=======]
Navy: [=|=========]

Tech: [========|==]

Allies:
Enemies:
-

Syserror (BSOD)

Govt: Monarchial Republic
Army: [===|=======]
Navy: [=======|===]

Tech: [========|==]

Allies: Sydney, Magwoli
Enemies:
-(turn was a little too late, but I'll write off any penalties and include your actions on top of next turn)

Teclos (QuakerPerez)

Govt: Monarchial Republic
Army: [==|========]
Navy: [=|=========]

Tech: [======|====]

Allies: Franks
Enemies: Kingdom of the Visigoths
-The old and antiquated form of the Roman legion is abandoned, and new formations mirroring the warbands of the Germanic hordes is adopted.
-The Teclo queen urges her generals to muster enough forces to fight against the Visigoths and take back Iberia. The king himself leads a major assault into Visigothic lands. The campaign has started off with tremendous success as the Visigoths lose large portions of their lands to other aspiring kinds, and the small empire fractures. The war already looks won.
-An alliance is formed with the Frankish king.
-Elephants are bred for enormous size, with a new tremendously strong type called the Oliphaunt coming to be.
-Chain mail is equipped to cavalry and elephants for better protection and heavier charges.

Vulcan (FridgeLogic)

Govt: Theocratic Republic
Army: [====|======]
Navy: [===|=======]

Tech: [=|=========]

Allies:
Enemies:
-Conscription plans have increased the size of the army considerably, and Vulcan begins to exert its prowess against the other kingdoms on the isle.
-Wary of the fact that Vulcan was once the controller of most of Britannia, the Germanic kingdoms know that Vulcan may seek to destroy them all. However, they are quite busy fighting each other, and there is a good chance that they can be used against each other before they decide to band together themselves and extinguish the Vulcan republic once and for all.
-Conscription of females is allowed, giving a slight boost to the Vulcan numbers in the field.
-Faith is utilized as a rallying call for unification, and a highly religious king in North Umbria is looking up to Vulcan for an alliance against Mercia.

What? You're not stable because of miracles, you're stable because you made good economic and infrastructural decisions that ultimately resulted in the empowerment of Angmar.

I used to be a stable country like you.

Then I took a Caliphate to the empire.

Say secular, get on neither side's good side and risk being attacked by both.

I'm in quite the catch 22, eh?

Build the Great Wall of the Middle East. It may take 500 years though…

You could have somebody in your senate claim to be the Caliph and have a civil war. Kinda like the Anti-Pope and the struggles over the Holy Roman Empire. This would drastically reduce the expansion of the Muslim Empire however, and you would be indirectly empowering the Byzantines (again!), Franks, and Teclo.

Also, remember that the Byzantine Empire is an extension of Rome, and they will be scrabbling with difficulty to rebuild the Roman Empire in the west. I'd rather go against their beliefs while they are too weak to forcefully convert you than compromise with both parties until either one can overtake you.

TURN 12 WAIT! WAAAAIIIIIIT… WAIT FOR….oh darnit I missed it.

Oh well, thanks Syndic for not penalizing. The worst part is that the next few days are getting even busier than yesterday so I might miss turn 13 too.

I could post a turn now in advance to avoid that but I need to spend time thinking about it first

Looks like Mertola now has free reign over Canada. With no one to challenge him he could become the first superpower in this game. We should probably be concerned about that.

I guess I won't be committing mass genocide against your people for a while then huh? Well that's alright, I'll never forget the great memories we shared together buddy. I'll make an active effort to see you again.

It would be impossible to maintain a modern superpower during this era. The infrastructure and communication methods simply aren't there. The earliest time you could make a global empire would probably be in the Colonial era, and it's still hard then. Most mega-Empires will pop up during the Industrial era. Within two or three turns Mertola will most likely fall apart and resemble Europe.

I didn't mean now he could form a superpower now. But he has the resources to become one as soon as the chance comes available.

Already he has the biggest nation in the game and he hasn't lost grip of any of it.

But his nation shouldn't be so stable. If we are lucky he will break up into smaller NPC's

Yes. It will break up. And when it does, we can all claim a slice of it like the Imperialist vultures we are.

That is exactly what will happen. The main thing that has been holding Mertola together for the past few centuries is continuous conquest and foreign threat. Now that there is none, and their only real enemy has been defeated, I'd say in a turn or two the empire will collapse. He could prolong his control over the continent by splitting up into smaller parts with control over each, like the Mongol Empire will do, or like the Roman/Byzantine Empire did. But even that won't last forever, and eventually the separate kingdoms will be fully autonomous.
