You know that song "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner?
No?
Give it a listen.
I think it's catchy. The story in the song in the song isn't that hard to understand…
… or so I thought.
Let's break this down.
It starts with the chorus
Well I'm hot blooded
Check it and see
Got a fever of one hundred and three
Come on baby do you do more than dance
I'm hot blooded
I'm hot blooded
You're lead to believe that this guy is hornin' for someone, no gender has been established yet.
Now verse 1.
You don't have to read my mind
To know what I have in mind
Honey you oughtta know
Now you move so fine
Let me lay it on the line
I wanna know what you're doin' after the show
Still no establshed gender, but now we know this guy is trying to "get with" the dancer.
What's this called? I think it's the bridge, whatever.
Now it's up to you
We can make a secret rendezvous
Just me and you
I'll show you lovin' like you never knew
If you still had doubts, "lovin' like you never knew" should dispel them.
Chorus again…
Well I'm hot blooded
Check it and see
Got a fever of one hundred and three
Come on baby do you do more than dance
I'm hot blooded
I'm hot blooded
Nothing new there.
Now this is where things get interesting.
Verse 2
If it feels alright
Maybe you can stay all night
Shall I leave you my key?
But you've got to give me of sign
Come on girl
Some kind of sign
Tell me are you hot mama
You sure look that way to me
We know it's a female now. He calls her "girl", with isn't unusual, this is soft rock after all. I mean, he goes on to call her "mama".
But up next the true meaning is revealed.
Bridge(?) 2.
Are you old enough?
Will you be ready when I call your bluff?
This is all everyone else who came to the same conclusion as me has read. "are you old enough" is all they read and then they call the protagonist a pedophile and call it a day. But it's not just about sexual relations with a minor. He says he is going to "call her bluff" while this may just be a poor excuse for a rhyme (see verse 1 where they rhyme "mind" with "mind") but it could mean she's been pretending to be legal age so she could dance.
But that's not the end.
Is my timing right?
Did you save your love for me tonight?
Huh? Timing? "Saving your love"? Sounds like he's asking if she's a virgin or not. It sounds like he's 100% ready to fornicate with a minor, he almost seems excited.
Chorus 3
Yeah I'm hot blooded
Check it and see
Feel the fever burning inside of me
Come on baby do you do more than dance
I'm hot blooded
I'm hot blooded
Nothing of interest there.
Bridge(?) 3
Now it's up to you
Can we make a secret rendezvous
Now we now why the rendezvous has to be secret, it's illegal.
Before we do, you'll have to get away from you know who
Now, I'm not sure who "you know who" is but my theories are they're:
a. The police
b. Some sort of pimp, meaning the guy in the song is trying to get a free ride n the sack with a minor for free. Which is essentially the lowest of low.
Now the ending chorus.
Chorus 4.
Well I'm hot blooded
Check it and see
Got a fever of one hundred and three
Come on baby do you do more than dance
I'm hot blooded
I'm hot blooded
What a sick foreign man.
Let's do one quick once-over of lines with a new meaning with this context.
Bridge 1
I'll show you lovin' like you never knew
This could mean he's looking for a virgin or that he feels that he'll be the best in bed of all of her "clients".
Verse 2
But you've got to give me of sign
Come on girl
Some kind of sign
Now it kinda sounds like he's asking her if she's a prostitute or not.
So now, whenever someone sings this song in front of you, you can tell them what they are singing about.
Summary: A foreign man goes to a club and sees a child prostitute pretending to be of legal age. He tells her he knows she's underage but he still wants to totally do it with her.
tl;dr: On lonely nights, Captain Blubber listens to classic rock radio stations and gives the songs he hears new meanings.
