This is a serious continuation of this thread here
I wasn't sure whether to put this in here or "Report Problems", but I decided on here, feel free to move it if needed.
I also wasn't really sure if the linked topic was serious or just a joke, from what was said after I asked I can only seem it's really going to happen and is meant sincerely. So this topic is made with that assumption.
This is a very bad idea. It's mostly based on what seems to be a very small issue at most, if not a complete non-issue. If something is relevant to 2 or more galleries then it's pretty obvious that it's a fit for all of them. Even if one of those is a better fit than the other(s), it's still ridiculous to get so angry about them doing something that's such a minor mistake and not necessarily even really wrong to begin with!
As I said there I have a specific example not related to Tumblr, which I will give now to demonstrate.
I recently uploaded this picture:
This picture is relevant to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Warhammer 40000, both basically equally so it could go into either gallery and be just as valid in either. I picked MLP just because I figured there'd be less backlash to Warhammer stuff in the MLP gallery than MLP stuff in the Warhammer gallery. Later it was moved and I wasn't bothered, it fit just as well in that gallery but if I had been punished for putting it in the MLP gallery or they started threatening to close the MLP gallery because of posts like this then I WOULD be rather miffed to say the least because I put it there for perfectly valid reasons.
Now let's say the same thing happened to the next MLP/40k crossover I uploaded:
Again, relevant to both but I decided it was better in the MLP gallery and more relevant to MLP since it's all MLP stuff with just a 40k reference. This one wasn't moved but if it had been I would've been a bit puzzled for that reason, I might have even asked why. If the MLP gallery was threatened with closure because of pictures like THIS then I would've been seriously pissed off because that's where it belongs and getting mad at people for not shoehorning it into something else just to avoid being in a popular gallery would be complete and utter madness.
So why do I bring this up? Because the same thing could be happening in the Tumblr gallery (and indeed most of the stuff they take issue with seems to be like this): either it's equally relevant to both Tumblr and X so they decided to put it in the Tumblr gallery (which would be no more or less valid than putting it in the X gallery) or it's more relevant to Tumblr than X so they put it in the Tumblr gallery (which would be the right choice). So neither of those are good reasons to threaten to shut down a gallery that still has 100% valid uses.
What's more, this wouldn't solve anything. Because the core "issue" is that you've got something that could fit into multiple places so they put it in the more popular one because it fits just as well as anything else. Guess what? That "problem" will be there for as long as there are galleries more popular than each other and pictures relevant to more than one of them. And I 'm sure I don't have to tell you that there's no way to actually stop that from happening. So by all means shuffle things around if needed but there will never, ever be a one-size-fits-all, one-time-only solution and by sacrificing so much in the pointless pursuit of one you will only cut off valid contributions and sow resentment among the very community responsible for actually giving content and making sure clicks roll in for your ad revenue. Surely I don't need to point out why that's bad either.
Lastly, the behavior of some of the moderation staff is rather appalling, seeming to belie a straight-up hatred of their own userbase and near god complex giving them the idea that nobody can ever have a point if they disagree with them and that they're always right. This is really not an attitude that moderators should have, and thinking this way simply makes them a ticking time bomb.
I hope that mostly covers it, but I can explain more if needed.
