What are you favorite songs that are in a language you cannot speak?

Do you listen to any music from a culture, ethnicity, or general group of people unrelated to you and your regional style? Languages can be both intimidating and beautiful, and music is a universal medium that helps to convey words even if you cannot understand them.

The slavic and eastern European areas hold a rich culture that aren't part of the spotlight that western Europe has. Soviet music is bold and passionate, and I do like to listen to folk music as well.

I also find the Eurasian Steppe to be a fascinating world, with so many intermingling cultures that have clashed and traded with each other for centuries. Turkic, Kazakh, and Mongolian music is quite alluring. It makes you feel like you are in the open steppe.

I'm Chinese, and I can't really say there are an awful lot of Chinese pieces I like. The Korean and Japanese music industries are more comfortable with me, although I'm not overly fond of the idol worshiping.

German song. No matter the day, no matter the time, this song always makes me feel really good. There are two version of this, but of course, I prefer the longer one which nearly reaches the six-minute mark.

*
This slovak song showed up in the film of Hostel 2, but take off the context where it comes from and what do you get? A beautiful, splendid song. The violin part is just fantastic to listen.

*
A harbinger of arab sounds. It's really hypnotic, for a lack of better words. I first heard this one after having visited a store of antiques. After listening to it, I knew it had my complete attention.

Finally, we have a chinese representative. This one comes from the soundtrack of Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. The whole song is actually made by three or four short songs; they all converge into a smooth rhythm.

It's so catchy and weird and not in the "lolsorandom" sort of way. You've got candy and presents and skulls and eyeballs and a heavyset person of indeterminate gender or race with no face that dances around occasionally.

Not only does it have lyrics that hit me in the heart, but it's also the history behind this song that sells it to me. It was the unofficial anthem for protesters in the Tiananmen Square Protests of 1989.

A wacky and fun song is one we all could use once in a while. This song is usually my first pick. It also sums up how I feel in the morning when I'm rudely awakened.

When I first heard the English version of this song, I was blown away by it. It was sort of an emotional rollercoaster. But then I found out there's a Russian version to this, and I think I like it better than the English version!

Any of the German tracks from Xenoblade X. I can't decide which is my favorite because they're all literally different genres and all sooooo good. This one's more soft and deeply emotional.

One of the first "j-pop" tunes I've ever gotten into:

@Roy G Biv

Is that… Pomf pomf?

I mean, aside from a few anime OPs and EDs, I don't really find myself listening to anything else other than music in English or instrumentals. This is probably one song that does stand out to me though:

During my phase where I did nothing but play World of Tanks, Girls und Panzer got me heavily into Russian folk songs, specifically wartime ones.

Though my favorite songs in a different language are both covers. "Helden" (Heroes) a David Bowie cover and "House of the Rising Sun" from the Wolfenstein: The New Order OST.

But for real I like a lot of Zydeco tracks in French. There's also a band I really like called Funkadesi that blends African and Hindi music styles. The songs are also in multiple languages. I particularily like the track All Alone which has some of the best bass work I've ever heard in a song.
