How NSFW is too NSFW for linking?

I got a warning for linking to Danbooru because Danbooru contains porn. But I've seen people link to Pixiv in their posts and the image is still up. Isn't Pixiv also full of porn? So how NSFW is too NSFW?

Or is this a matter of the actual page being linked? i.e. if the actual page(in this case, image) being linked is NSFW but not explicit, is it safe to link?

Try to use "safebooru", I hope this could save your ass from the long run. And, I hope linking sources to there is acceptable.

Doesn't pixiv have an R-18 mode that you willingly have to click into? Seems different than danbooru, where that stuff is pretty open. Also, remember that danbooru requires a source link for an image, maybe use that instead?

I'm of the view that not safe for work should indeed mean work.

If my boss in the office sees this, will they start asking questions? (I don't personally work in an office but w/e I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be looking at anime girls in swimsuits when I need to be representing a reputable establishment or cuffing a drunk twat)

Tumblr doesn't, though, but linking there's fine. I always thought the rule was you have to add a [Site contains NSFW content] kind of warning to the link when linking to a page that may also display such content.

I also don't think there's ever been clarification on linking to sites with NC content, such as liveleak.

If you're on KYM instead of doing work, they're probably going to ask questions. The term NSFW is kind of funny since pretty much the entire internet isn't safe for work since your likely to get in trouble regardless as to what you're looking at.

I'm even more confused now.

Alright, can someone just answer me this: is Pixiv safe to link?

My apologies. I was wasn't nips there.

As for Pixiv, I consider them as the Deviantart of Japan, and they have age restriction filters so it's pretty okay to use it as a source.

…which brings up the old argument that if you're at work, nothing on KYM is relevant or "safe" for your job, so why be here at all.

Furthermore, it would mean every gallery would turn into a wall of NSFW thumbnails, bordering on becoming unusable. The amount of backtracking in images and videos KYM staff mods would have to do would be monumental. Which will never happen ever, if we're being honest.

The general consensus, at least in the past, was that linking to blatant NSFW sites (anything with hentai in the URL), or a specific artist who does NSFW work, like porn blogs, NSFW pixiv pages, and artists (like KYHU when The Legend of Korra was getting big) is a no-no. Consideration would be given to artists who aren't strictly smut publishers, in which case they'd be marked with the [NSFW] label.

Another stance is what some mod (probably RandomMan but I honestly don't want to check IRC logs) proposed, which is how accessible NSFW content would be should a user click on the link. Clicking on a source to a specific Tweet, for example, only really shows that image and the user's icon. Relatively safe. Links to sites like Gelbooru, however, could have pornographic ads or "related items" which easily pass for NC. So not so safe.

Basically just ask the mods if you're ever unsure. I'm sure Rivers needs something to do :^)

Alright, I'm trying to get discussion moving along with other mods but in the mean time, I'll offer my two cents.

First things first, generally it is best to link to the actual creator's page as opposed to boorus. The biggest exceptions being if the actual source is NC (ie the image uploaded is part of a photoset on say Tumblr, and the image uploaded is fine, but all the others are basically just porn). There it is better to link to a SFW booru or just say the name of the creator and what site ("so and so" on Tumblr).

Now, one thing of particular note where I personally think a NSFW Booru is fine to link to (as long as the immediate page on the link is not NC) is when the original artist has taken down their work. Documentation on a booru is better than no documentation. Generally, though, you still want to put in the fact that this link is going to a NSFW website, even if the first click is fine.

Tumblr blogs get iffy, for multiple reasons. A primarily porn artist/ porn reblogger may make a few SFW pics that you want to upload. Generally I would go with the same thing I said about the tumblr photoset, say who it is and what site, but do not link. Of course, it's possible that a mostly SFW artist decides to make said blog porn related, and have porn in their theme or something at some point in the future. There's not really a lot people can do about that.

Pixiv and DeviantArt generally requires you to login to see NC things. There are people who don't know how to tag explicit stuff correctly, but overall, if the image doesn't break the site rules itself, then it's fine to link to on these sites.
