What do you guys think about an ASCII Gallery?

I wouldn't think that there's much backstory to any piece of ASCII, but it's been used in a memetic way since way back; and it's probably the purest "Internet Meme" since every bit of it originated on the Internet (and older types of networks.)

I haven't run this by Jamie, Greg or anybody else yet, but I'd really like to see a big fat ASCII gallery somewhere on this site. I don't know exactly how it would be worked into the database. But if you like the idea, post all your good ASCII into this thread for now.

In case I wasn't entirely clear; I'm talking about ASCII artwork, everything from old BBS splash screen stuff to "It's a Trap" to Triforce.

It seems to be used more in things such as propaganda, or titles.

It seems so widespread that it would be like calling a banner-size a meme.

Although like you said, it did originate on the Internet.

Okay, let me explain this in better detail.

I'm not saying that ASCII in general should get it's own Meme Database entry. I'm proposing the idea of a new section of the site, next to the Memes section. In this section, people could submit ASCII art into a gallery seperate from the larger MemeDB.

As I said, there's not much backstory to any single piece of ASCII art. And it's such a large and nebulous thing that it shouldn't really be considered a meme its self. But there are unique pieces of ASCII art that function as memes or support other memes. What would you think about a section of the website dedicated to a searchable database of ASCII art?

Sounds decent, a whole page dedicated to ASCII would be a mess in my opinion, but if you somehow set up a section just for ASCII, that would work very well.

Just put in a ticket to add <pre> and <code> tags to forums/comments so we can at least paste correctly in the meantime
