Why people want to feel superior?

I just dont get why most of the people gravitate toward their ego, people like to brag how good they are, how many projects they been involved, how incompetent the other people are, how much money they make, some people feel like shit when a classmate who was a no talent is making big bucks, people care so much about being admired, about being important.

I feel like a freaking alien when I don't follow this mentality, I just feel like doing what I like and don't bother if people are better than me, fame and fortune are nice but not something I crave, I don't get why people buy expensive clothes, cars, houses, I'm fine with a average car, small house, cheap clothes I don't feel like wasting money on the premium stuff that is basically the same.

I'm sorry if this sound like a rant or something I just watched Birdman and I was disgusted on how the main character was desperate for being important again.

You're fine with living your life in one way.
Other people are fine with living their lives in another.
Why do you care how someone else lives their life?

Reasoning behind this could be MANY things, examples being they're insecure, more biological reasons, or they're just a dick.
It's honestly just something we all do at some points or another, whether or not we realize it, it's just some of us stoop to the point of being a straight up bigot or dick. Feeling prideful is perfectly natural and we should just move along is someone's a bit TOO prideful.
Also to respond to that whole "people feel like shit when a classmate who was a no talent is making big bucks." For starters I can't understand why someone would feel like shit for someone else's success other than being straight up jealous. Second of all if he/she is making big bucks he/she probably has some kind of talent.
TL;DR This is natural, don't let it get to you, keep calm and move on.

Would you want to die and be quickly forgotten, or just seen as a joke? Would anyone want that?

I think sometimes that's where a ultra-superior attitude can come from- out of the unconscious fear that one isn't superior, and thus won't be remembered or remembered well.

Curiosity, the same as I'm curious as to why some people have weird fetish or think they are a gay wolf trapped in a male body

.

About that

Would you go that far just to be remembered? I mean ruining your family, spending all your money and killing yourself? To me he looked like puppet of the society crushed by his ego.

I think the problem is that he doesn't care about their lives but they keep forcing him to care.

Is somebody talking themselves up really forcing you to care though? You might be forced to listen during some parts of the day, but you still don't have to care. You nod and smile and say that's great for them and you go back to whatever you were doing when they leave, welcome to the world of adults. You should get good at it now and be like me, I work in HR/executive assisting and people think I'm like the nicest person.
