In all that I read about the gun control debate, as heated as both sides get… I see little by way of solutions that would actually have stopped the heinous gun crimes that get everyone riled up.
Am I right?
Then I take a step back, and follow the logical chain of events: Lets say we do ban "assault style weapons" in America? Now fast forward 5 years, 10 years, 20 years into the future… who will be abiding by the ban? The law abiding citizens of our fine country of course. But, are those really the people we are worried about having a semi auto pistol or an AR 15 with a 30 round mag? Hmn… well, I guess the answer is NO. I could care less if my neighbor the Marine Corps Vet of Afghanistan and Iraq has an AR 15 in his closet. He has an honorable discharge from the military… goes to church most Sundays… walks his kids to school when he has the time… works 5 days a week as a nurse in the ER… so why do I care if he likes to go to the gun range and blow up a few targets on the weekend with his AR? Why would I care if he likes to use his AR for hunting white tail deer in the fall? I guess I really don't. In fact, I kind of feel a bit better knowing that Joe has his AR, just in case… you know, the zombies attacked our neighborhood or something.
Now, on the other hand, the crazy homeless dude down the road that sometimes shows up on peoples lawns in the middle of the night talking to himself… I don't think I want him to have an AR15… Just sayin.
But lets get real here, the more I think about it, what is taking guns out of the hands of the 99.9% of the law abiding citizens in american going to do? Is it really going to take guns out of the hands of the "bad guys" who are bent on doing someone harm? Even if it does take SOME access to guns out of the bad guys hands… If Im a Bad Guy, then don't I just get more creative?? I don't know, maybe instead of shooting someone, I run them over with my car… stick a needle filled with cocaine in their arm… push them off a tall building… ?
If someone could show me some rational as to how taking guns away from my law abiding neighbor Joe is going to solve our gun problems in this country, I would feel a lot better about things.
