KYM Convention?

Do you know what would be awesome?
A convention for Know Your Meme. There can be seminars on article editing, meme research, technology etc. etc. and we can sell meme-related items and all cosplay as our icons

It shall be glorious
Excuse me, I'm buying a horse mask and some spray paint

Yeah, it would be cool, and it has been suggested quite a few times before.

However, with the current condition the site is in… we are lacking a good number of staff members and have our Scientists in permanent hiding. It's not going to happen until the site is back in operating condition.

Though I think if you want something close to it, everybody on KYM staff usually attends the Hallowmeme Party every year, so that's a good substitute.

What happened to the Scientists?

meh, sounds like a bad idea
most of us users are spread around the world

Sounds like a good idea but is not viable because many of us live around the world and some users, like me, live in the ass of the world.

It would be difficult to have a user-based convention.

and all cosplay as our icons

This quote makes me believe you meant for the users to all meet up somewhere.

Actually, even for the US, it would be difficult to get a userbase together who is often still reliant on their parents' income or aren't in a position to go tripping so easily. If you must put together one, I might suggest holding one where most of the users are…in the Midwest

You'd probably be more easily able to get people to make long roadtrips, and it would certainly be easier to find venue/parking/accomodations/reasonable prices up there than in NY.

What might be a consideration is to have webinars put together by staff, top-tier editors and entry moderators on KYM, and various other experts on Web culture. You wouldn't have meet ups, merchandising, or the ability to turn a profit (unless you charged something for access to the webinars, which, per the Internet, might be able to bypassed anyway) in that format, but you could have a few days where you have a lot of people giving "live" information in lieu of panels, and no one has to take more time out of their day than they have to being at a convention.

That has its own problems, and I wouldn't propose it anytime soon, but if there was enough interest and it was "marketed" well-enough, it might be something that at least makes sense.

Ok….maybe no seminars.
The Midwest shouldn't be a problem.

Kim Jong is in Canada. Huh.

Although this appears to be the most updated map, I no longer live in Missouri and haven't for a year. So you probably have users who are no longer active and/or users who have moved.

But from another map opspe put together, a lot of US users in Web Culture seem to live in the Midwest.

It's all fun and games until someone comes cosplaying as the Goat.

They got a lot of shit thrown at them for both being new guys and not as strong of writers. They haven't made an episode for over a year now.

I personally thought their writing was really bad.

@Convention:

Someone's going to have to fund that, you know.
