About editing Name Entries of pictures.

Greetings, thanks for running this lovely site, I like it a lot.

I'd like to ask a small favor it's fine. When you change a newly added picture's Name Entry please also add the previous Name Entry to the picture as a tag, they're usually very important.

For example this picture was firstly added by me to the gallery at the "CADbortion / Loss Edits" Name Entry, then the Name Entry was changed to "Za Warudo / WRYYYYY"

Like this (Until tagged again obviously) it won't appear at the "CADbortion / Loss Edits" gallery which visibly is one of the most relevant tags for this picture and people would probably look for it there first if needed. At the time I posted this it was not there among this gallery's newest images.

When this happens to images there's a chance it won't be noticed and fixed after a long while, I've found this problem in some of my old uploaded images and fixed it just months later so that's why I mention it now instead of tagging the picture again and moving on, need to mention it because it's a constant issue.

Thanks, memes are srs bsns.

My bad. I moved the image and should've added the name as a tag. We're supposed to be watching for that stuff when we move images, so sorry 'bout that. I've edited the image to add the relevant tags.

Here’s another example.

I added this pic to the “Nier: Automata” gallery, then someone changed the Name Entry to the “Plz rember” gallery, no one noticed the pic there and tagging it with “Nier: Automata” wouldn’t make it appear at it's gallery, you can test it from there by clicking the tags.

Then someone else uploaded this same pic again to the Nier: Automata gallery, people finally noticed it there and this time no one changed the Name Entry.

^I pretty much posted it like this before and the tags were working before the Name Entry being changed.

I personally don’t mind it and it can be left like that, but I guess I gotta report the prob with the tags since I’m seeing it, gotta check if the tags are working before and after changing a picture’s Name Entry, can't just change it and leave it there. Just saying.

Well, it seems that if an image is able to fit in more than one gallery, the first gallery it is posted in would be the more relevant choice. Generally, actual memes take priority over subcultures and subcultures take priority over umbrella galleries like Tumblr, Gifs, Twitter, YouTube and Reaction Images. Copies of the same images may be posted to multiple galleries, though it is not recommended. In several cases, however, tags related to entries of insignificant relevance may not be added. Example: using the Smash Bros. tag for any images featuring characters playable in that game, even if the image is not directly tied to Smash.

Regardless, searches do not alter the Entry Name. Tags have higher influence on searchability since they can lead to images from multiple galleries. Whereas the Entry Name only affects images posted on that entry. The Entry Name is not automatically added to the tags, so depending on relevance, it must be added manually.

I wouldn't worry about Entry Name as much as the tags. Better tagging takes priority over entry placement.

I'm getting the impression that you're confused between tags and galleries. An image can only exist in one gallery at a time. So when you say things like:

Like this (Until tagged again obviously) it won’t appear at the “CADbortion / Loss Edits” gallery which visibly is one of the most relevant tags for this picture

…you're absolutely right! In your specific example, the image will appear in the entry's gallery it is currently listed under and only this entry gallery. The image may or may not retain the tag for CADbortion/Loss, which signifies its relevance to. An image can always have tags that mark it as relevant to multiple entries, but under no circumstances will the same image appear in multiple galleries. It's working as intended, as odd as that sounds.

If you're wondering why an image may not always be moved to the "most" relevant entry, this is because the policy regarding it is sorta arbitrary and convoluted. Just trust that image moves happen for good reason, or PM the moderator who moved your image for clarification.

But honestly, there's a better way to handle this regardless. According to the media god himself, situations like this are precisely why the "do not use the entry name as a tag" rule is calcified garbage and should be ignored. I cannot make any guarantees, but I'm pretty confident that our good media stewards don't just go around removing single tags of the entry name on images. Basically, tag the name of the entry an image was uploaded to, as this tag will persist if the image is moved to an entry, or removed from any classification entirely. This should resolve any issues involving image moves and missing connections to one or more entries.

In several cases, however, tags related to entries of insignificant relevance may not be added. Example: using the Smash Bros. tag for any images featuring characters playable in that game, even if the image is not directly tied to Smash.

Okay, yes but technically sorta no. Relevance in this case gets really weird because we're technically treating Smash Bros. as a subentry of every other entry it is drawing from in a specific instance. A Smash Bros. image with Lucina and Luigi obviously gets uploaded to the Smash Bros. gallery as this is the most immediately relevant, but is tagged with both Fire Emblem for Lucina and Super Mario for Luigi. In this instance, Smash Bros is acting as a subentry of both of these entries, even though KYM's system doesn't allow for the entries to be structured this way. A similar image of Lucina and Luigi that is not from Super Smash would not be tagged with Smash Bros. because the image is relevant to its entries but not one of the theoretical child entries. Smash Bros. is relevant to any collection of the parent entries it is under (in this case being all entries for characters playable in Smash), but this does not mean Smash is a sum of those entries.

So yeah, you can see why we tell people your way,

Praise Jesus James that KYM doesn't allow for entries to have multiple parent entries, nor eventually loop unto themselves. The Nintendo-related section of the site alone would be a hellish wasteland of crossover works.
