I don't know if "preview" is what it's called, but it's when you click on a thumbnail and don't go to the image page but it appears over a black screen. It has a white sidebar with some bits of information, but it could benefit from some that are only visible on the image page. There's a gold favorite star you can click, but it strangely doesn't have the number beside it like on the page (this would be the easiest and least obtrusive to implement). Furthermore, I think everything on the image page's own sidebar should be on this sidebar as well (views, date, notes, source, tags, "claim authorship", edit history, and uploader). The origin entry is the only thing both sidebars have. This may seem like a lot, and some note sections are lengthy, but there's plenty of empty space below that could be utilized this way (and it can become scrollable when too long).

Also, I don't suggest this, but if you want to make KYM more like Facebook, comments could be added to the preview page too. If all of these were added, I don't think there'd be an exclusive purpose for the image page anymore besides a permalink, but any one of these would make it more convenient than having to go to another page to see it.
