I know it really doesn't do anything, but it would be interesting to count comment upvotes and downvotes too

You can already see how many upvotes and downvotes each comment has by hovering the mouse icon over the combined number of votes.
I know, but I mean adding to your "karma" score
Like, right now the karma only appears for forum posts. If implemented, you'd be able to see the sum of not only the up/downvotes from a person's forum posts, but from their comments and images as well, right?

Speaking of, why does a users sum karma only apply to forum posts? This seems like something that should have been expanded on a while ago.

It seems like the forums in general are more finished than the comments given there's an edit feature here
This goes right back to the first years of KYM, way before I joined, so I'm not 100% sure about this. But I believe the forums came first and a lot of things, including the karma count, were designed with the forums in mind. The admins intended for the forum to be the main way in which users communicated and the comments were supposed to be of secondary importance. Clearly that's not how things turned out, and the forums have been pretty dead since about 2017. But at this point the site's design is ancient and there's a to-do list that gets longer every year. A lot of things are further up that list than fixing karma counts.
