Did the staff not learn the lesson the first time?

No idea on workarounds.

I understand the reason for the ads and everything, but, uh, this site isn't really usable without an adblocker.

In fact MS Edge without addons will block some ads (as the browser states, the ad consumes too many resources) (On beefy systems (5800X, 16GB RAM)) and on Mobile (Edge for android)

People call this site a softcore porn site because of all of the half naked women art but really it's like a porn site because of all of the ads. Are you listening admins? You have as many ads porn sites! Except you're not offering hot singles in my area!

Seconding all of that. I'll add that if this spamming of both ads and constant plead to turn off the blockers scares users off, your ad revenue will go down, if anything.
Not even to mention, this new pop-up shows up on every new tab I open. As a laptop user, who likes to open new tabs in order to not have to go back and forth a gazillon times to visit a single gallery, this is downright infuriating. Not that other means of visiting a different picture's page stop the damn pop-up from opening at least every three memes, mind you. This is some "Owerwatch 2 Will Require…" level of answering a problem by creating a much worse one that doesn't even acually help.

I like this site so I tried to play ball and turn it off, but as soon as I hear an autoplay video ad it goes back on without hesitation. They didn't learn their lesson the first time so if they want more money now they can get Don to start an OnlyFans.

Horrendous performance aside (which is a huge issue), that's one of the biggest problems with this hellsite. Obtrusive ads.

Hell even with adblocker turned on, site-relevant videos will still follow you around after you scroll past them on some entries. I really don't need to see that "waifu wars break out of cyberpunk:edgerunners" video auto playing for the 30th time today.

Why does this website need to be such a pain to use?

So it seems that people who run this site are throwing another fit over adblockers . Yet they let the ads be as annoying as possible.

Anyone know of workarounds?

I'm using uBlock Origin,
For me it's the following:
Right-click the message demanding that you disable adblock, select "Block element…" and block the parent element.

You'll need to reinstate scrollbars, I did this using the "Custom JavaScript for Websites 2" and added a HTMLObserver with an attributeFilter of 'style' targeted at the page html and body tags.

I set the callback to simply "removeAttribute('style')".

I suggest hitting the support button and letting them know that they don't actually need to ask us to disable adblock, they can just fix the ads and we'll do it without needing to be asked.

To browse a meme site I just had to modify code.

This is amazing.

Also, thank you. :)

KYM users: "Your adblock pop-up sucked lmao, take it off or at least make it less obnoxious"

KYM: "Ok"

Users: "Alright cool, now we can go back to browsing the webs-"

Hey, I'm a bit of a scrub when it comes to this kind of stuff. I got Custom JavaScript for Websites 2, but I can't figure out how to reinstate scroll bars this way. Is this something as simple as copy and pasting something where the extension's tab says "// Here You can type your custom JavaScript…"?
How do I do it?

Pretty sure this is my first forum post because this pisses me the hell off. First, I can't use the site while using a VPN, now I can't use the site because of a shitty anti-adblock message. What will they think of next?

I wasn't so sure about just posting straight Javascript to the forums (especially given what it's for) so I just gave rough instructions.

At the risk of some unwanted attention from mods and anyone who might not take to kindly to this:

That code works for me, just paste it in, hit save and it will refresh the page, hopefully with the scrollbars back in place.

Hi, my 3 cents on the matter. I recently switched browsers to Firefox, as part of a whole OS switch for work and such, and, well the myriad other reasons to switch to Firefox these days. Firefox has built in tracking blocking, which blocks Social Media Trackers, Cross Site Cookies, External Tracking Content, Script Fingerprinting, and Cryptominers.

With no additional adblocker running, I see exactly 1 ad, and it's your YouTooz ad.

A browser that recognizes and prevents Clearly Unethical Digital Behaviors kills all of your advertising. This is why I have the adblocker. Even with the level of protection I have by default, I think I'll be keeping it on.

I use Nano Defender for Firefox (alongside uBlock Origin, so there'll be a little bit of extra setup required) and haven't gotten any ad spam yet, thankfully. And this is yet more proof of why adblockers are absolutely essential web browsing tools and you should never let anyone guilt-trip you into thinking otherwise.

ETA: And after further reading, it seems another factor is the fact that I have NoScript installed as well, which is preventing stuff from protestcopy . c o m (deliberately spacing so as not to accidentally link)

Ads are great for site revenue and all, but has Don considered an OnlyFans account?

If you read a bit from the Stable Diffusion entry you can make your own Don-inspired OF content.

I turned them off until we can figure out how to tone them down for logged in users.

Great idea about the OnlyFans. Here's a sneak peek:

Logged in users are already here. Don't worry about them; they're a masochistic bunch. Instead, worry about the new users that might be turned off by the 'oh, disable your adblock (and crash your browser)' popup on every single page. Or maybe worry about how the ads are so bad here that your browser crashes, requiring an adblocker to even view things in the first place.

If you have to drown your website in this many ads just to stay afloat, maybe you're doing something wrong. Just a thought.

I don't think "have to" is particularly accurate characterisation.

They chose to and have definitely passed the threshold where more ads means decreased ability to stay afloat.

Yeah, like allowing image uploads that don't belong on the site. The less bandwidth used, lower the costs.

I agree
all the racist bs that gets botvoted excused because a certain mod agrees with it

"So how do we increase ad engagement on KYM?"

"Let's remove perfectly monetizable image uploads we don't like according to a subjective criteria most people without Adblock won't agree to"

"Genius!"
