Editable quotes

When you quote someone, you have to quote the entire post.

It really becomes a problem when you want to address individual parts or when the post is really long. So I propose we allow quotes to be edited so we can pick and choose what parts to quote.

I feel like there is or was a way to do that, but how to do it slipped my mind or something. Maybe there's a trick in textile that can emulate the effect?

You can use < blockquotes > but the issue is it's pretty inconvenient having to jump back to "What is textile" to copy/paste or manually type it out every time.

It also doesn't let you identify the post you're responding to, which can just makes things confusing and harder to track.

I'm not against it in theory, but as stated there are <a href="https://knowyourmeme.com/forums/q-a/topics/12023-kym-guide-to-textile"block quotes which can be used. I've had that page in my favorites for several years.

If you aren't quoting the entire post… then it's basically the same issue of being hard to track. When you quote a post directly, it doesn't directly link to the original. You can do a Ctrl + F if the post is on the same page if you want, or on the page the post was initially made.

Don said on a different issue that I brought up that the top priority is making sure the site doesn't go down again. IDK how hard this would be to implement (I assume somewhat easy given I've seen this on other sites) but I'm unsure if the nature of presenting someone's post potentially to say something they never said would fly well.
