I'm not sure if this exact thread has been made yet (I don't remember one recently), and it's kind of hard to tell since there's so many similar threads on the vidya gaems board, but I'll make this anyways. Just post your #1 favorite game you've ever played. Whether this changes for you often or you've always had a favorite or you just can't decide and don't have a concrete choice, just post what you feel necessary. If you can't decide, just post the best few for you instead of one.

This game is just a masterpiece to me. Opinions are sort of mixed on which of the three Prime games is the best (even though it seems like the overall opinion gravitates towards the original being the best), but to me this is the best in the series and the best game ever made period to me. There are lots of things that turned people off to the game that made me actually enjoy it more. I guess it's all a matter of perspective. People complained about the ammo system but I liked the ammo system. People didn't like the dark world mechanic and how you get slowly damaged in it but I loved that mechanic and it's one of my favorite parts of the game and it's the best "alternate universe" mechanic I've ever seen in a game to me. People didn't like the difficulty but I enjoyed the difficulty. It's better than the cake-walk which is Metroid Prime 3. (Liked that game too, but it was pathetically easy) I've even heard people go as far as to condemn the game just because of its difficulty which isn't even that hard to begin with compared to other games like Dark Souls, Castlevania, etc. I love SomecallmeJohnny's channel, but the fact that he rated the game poorly the game just because it was "too hard" is ridiculous. People didn't like the environments, I thought they were the best. It's all perspective.

One of the best parts of the game to me was the enemies. The Ing are a badass group of villains to say the least and the battle with their Emperor is great. Dark Samus is also my favorite video game villain ever which is something else. The more the game progressed, the better it got to me. The only part I didn't think was all too good was the underwater section in Torvus. (who knew water levels are tedious amirite?) It was still overall good though and didn't last long enough to really affect my overall perception of the game. The desert section was great, the swamp section was better, the fortress was fantastic, and the ending with the four phase final boss was mind-blowing. I just can't stop having orgasms at the sheer thought of this game and I love it too much. Sorry for the rant, but I couldn't hold it back. Oh, one more thing, the soundtrack was great, but I do admit that Prime 1 had the superior soundtrack overall.

So, favorite game? Maybe your rant can get someone else here to try it. Who knows?

My favorite game of all time is Vampire: the Masquerade – Bloodlines.

Though the game had a lot of problems at the release, and was noticeably rushed at the end, it had something that stuck with me.

I liked the setting, the atmosphere, the environment. The first time I played the game, my jaw dropped at the first hub area. There were buildings I could enter, people I could talk to. Each one of them were fully voiced, had their own unique personality. Their body language during dialog, in my opinion, blows every single modern game out of the water. I liked how you could complete missions in the variety of ways: head-on, stealthily, through social interactions. Also adored the aesthetic of the areas, as they were dark and gloomy, yet comfy at the same time. The soundtrack also helped a lot to build the atmosphere. There were also little things you could do, like watch TV, listen to the radio, dance in the nightclubs, and so on.

It's just that the game was obviously made with love, and I feel like it could've been so much better if Activision didn't force Troika, the developer, to rush the game out when it wasn't finished yet. This had also cost Troika its life, as it was closed after the game was released.

Oooh man, this game.

I remember the first days I was on the internet and I found out that there are many other games just like Tales of Symphonia (which was the first game I ever played) and that this was one of them. I looked at screenshots and watched gameplay videos all the time~ Then I begged my parents for a ps2 and the game, blablabla. When I finally got to play it, I didn't have a memory card… and I didn't get one until like a week after getting it. So, I played it over and over again, all day, until it was time to sleep.

I loved the soundtrack, the graphics, the characters, the story, etc. The characters are very dear to me~ I loved every single one of them and how they interacted with each other. The story taught me a lot of things. When I first played it I was like 12 I think, I was really ignorant and I didn't like to think a lot about "deep" stuff, so it really helped me accept that there are some complicated things in life that I need to understand. Oh, and it was one of the games that helped me learn English, so that's pretty important too.

To this day, I've finished it 7 times and I'm near finishing it again~ I love it a lot~♥♥

Its a tie between

And

Fallout because its so fun and immersive to roam around the vast wasteland of what used to be a thriving world, the VATS system is great, the Gouls are terrifying, and its fun to blow peoples heads up.
TF2 because i have made so many friends and have done so many great things that i can't not love it. The gameplay is great, the community is fun and is just overall one of my favorites

While I don't have one favorite (it's usually between Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong Country 2, Banjo-Tooie, Psychonauts, etc.) I'll settle with one I don't see talked about that often: Jet Set Radio Future.

Everything about the Jet Set Radio series just oozes style like the art style, the soundtrack, the characters, and of course the game play. While the original had a fun timed score-attack arcade feel to it, a lot like Crazy Taxi, Future had the great overworld of Tokyo-To to explore which was great to explore without worrying about the time limit. JSRF also got me interested in graphic design with the much easier to use graffiti maker, where I would usually just make cartoon characters, needless to say it doesn't look as good as the in-game graffiti, and also being responsible for making me grow a lifelong obsession with Goth chicks thanks to the character Cube, who I always play as no matter what. I hope for Sega to one day return to the series, hopefully on Wii U or 3DS where it's easiest to make the graffiti and fits the Nintendo/Sega crowd pretty well.

SUPER ORIGINAL OPINION TIME:
Super Mario Bros. 3.
Perfect blend of control vs slippery-ness (SMB was too slippery, SMW was easy to control) for me. 2D Mario is still for me the purest gaming experience in my opinion.

When I got super into the game on the GBA, I didn't even know it was considered the best game of all time actually. Now the SNES version is usally the go-to one for me.

Although I do have some 'runner-ups' I prefer at times.
-SSB Brawl
-Mario Kart Double Dash!!
-Mega Man 3
-Ocarina of Time (Also real original)

My very first P.C. game was "The 3rd Millennium" (1998) by Cryo Interactive, a futuristic strategy game that mixes Simcity and Civilization. It's also my favorite game of all time.

@Terring
Dayum, you play Cyro gaems? The only one that I've ever own from them was their 360: Three Sixty racing game.

Mine's this. I swear, even it's been 9 years from now, you'll never, ever, fucking never get tired of crushing other racers into a wall at 200 MPH.

And I like this game because of the tons of things available in it.

  • The variety of guns. The almighty Cerebral Bore, for instance.
  • The enemies. Dinosaurs, lizardmen, aliens, robots, mutants, cyborgs, elementals, zombies, ghosts… you name it.
  • The AI. Enemies react when they're hurt; they run from you or they go after you depending sometimes in the weapon you're carrying or how weak they are; you can lure the enemies into attacking each other, surprisingly, they do it more aggressively; some enemies would rather kill themselves than keep fighting you.
  • The aspect of gore.
  • Colossal levels filled with secondary objectives and items well hidden. Backtrack is obviously necessary for this last part as the special abilities are obtained. Use of map also necessary in labyrinthine levels.
  • Godlike music. Darren Mitchell is blessed.
  • A fun multiplayer mode.
  • A story immersed wonderfully and enigmatically through the Dinosaur Hunter mythos.
  • Hidden levels. The factory-like places inhabited by cyclopean warriors with scimitars and high-tech weaponry.
  • Cheat codes, of course.

What can i say? Being the first RTS game i played as a kid, i got really hooked at it for years (though since i didn't know how to play the game at the time, i cheated a lot).

Getting the HD edition, i have to honestly say that the game suprisingly still holds up even more than a decade later since its release.

The graphics has age pretty well especially if you compared it to other games that were released in 1999. Gameplay remains challenging and fun. Campaign story wise still holds up but gameplay wise feels unfair. AI can either be very dangerous or very stupid at times. the standard map is still exciting with the modes you can choose. steam workshop integration is awesome. The fact that every faction's units look the same is still weird but forgivable.

Overall, this game will remain timeless with me.

For me its gotta be GTA san andreas
I got it like late 2005 when my dad got a PS2 since he wasn't around much that time I played the living crap out of it. Funny thing is not until I was 14, I decided to replay it and I found out I only finished the first three mission. I guess blowing stuff up was alot more fun than actual plot

GTA San Andreas is a favourite of mine

Right next to the Portal and Half Life series..

A friend of mine also got me onto "Interstellar Marines" and I think its pretty cool

Top 5:
5: Red Dead Redemption
4: SSBB
3: TLoZ: Twilight Princess
2: Half-Life 1
1: It's a tie between Super Metroid, and Spyro the Dragon

Honorable mentions:
Star Wars: Jedi Outcast
Call of Duty 1
Halo: Reach
TES: Oblivion
M.U.G.E.N
Cave Story
SSBM
Half-Life 2
TF2
Micecraft (modded)
Terraria
Pokemon
GTA: SA/VC
GMod

Though it may surprise you, Twilight Princess is not my favorite game ever! Crazy, I know!

No, I think that honor goes to Doom. When I think about what game I've played the most over the years, which one's easiest to just pick up and play a few levels of, put down for a while, then come back to it and have just as much fun, I don't see another alternative. I consistently have a blast playing the old girl, and RIPPING AND TEARING is just as much fun now as I'm sure it was back in '93 thanks to amazing mods like Brutal Doom and Russian Overkill.

Story? No. Memorable characters? Not really, though Sir Cyberdemon is a tad memorable. Gameplay? Timeless. It can even do atmosphere pretty well. (E1M5 still gives me chills. That music, man.) They transplant that gameplay onto the sheer HSQ (holy shit quotient) of Brutal Doom and give it a fresh coat of paint, I'll buy Doom 4 without a second thought.

"Over the centuries, mankind has tried many ways of combating the forces of evil… prayer, fasting, good works and so on. Up until Doom, no one seemed to have thought about the double-barrel shotgun. Eat leaden death, demon…" ~Terry Pratchett

EDIT: What's that rumbling noise? Have I just torn KYM asunder?

It's the only Cryo game I've played for now. Maybe I'll give a try at other Cryo games as well.

I received this game used, as a gift. I had never heard of it back them and had no idea what to expect. For some reason my expectatives were kind of low. Boy Was I wrong.
For me this game excels in every sense: graphics, really pretty and vivid, It's a ds game but they work very well with it; Gameplay, A bit clumsy and screwy at first, but once you get used to, It's pretty awesome how you become able to control both characters at the same time. Music: simply awesome, the urban music really puts the last touch to make the city of shibuya feel alive. Story: Oh boy, the story. Maybe the reason why I put the story of this game so high Is because I didn't know jack about it, so every little twist genuinely surprised me, and man, does this story have twists. I specially love how every one of those twists still fits perfectly and give you a new perspective when you replay it. And then there are the feels. The game has some very real feels.

And the icing on the cake? The game actually has a message, and one very well written and executed, about how every person has their own world, and the only way to expand yours is to get to know other people, and part of their worlds. this game wasn't just fun, it's message actually changed the way I looked at life and the world. No other game can I say that it did that to me, so that's why It shall always be special to me. I feel like replaying it.

Also, There is Sho Mimamimoto. If you haven't known this son-of-a-vector, you don't know what is an awesome character.

My top 10; no order

Super Metroid

Team Fortress 2

Super Mario Galaxy 2

The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Mega Man X

Dark Souls

Portal 2

Xenoblade Chronicles

Sonic 3 and Knuckles

Final Fantasy VI

Bayonetta 2 is most likely going to get in the top 10 as Bayonetta was my 11th favourite game, and Bayonetta 2 looks like an improvement in every way.

Also;

I picked Mario Galaxy 2 because it purified Mario, trimmed the fat and and added some fun ideas.

Skyward Sword is my favourite Zelda; and my explanation is really TL;DR.

Surprised no one put this one yet:

One of the few games that I can go back to time and time again and still have it feel fresh and exciting. It also stands out for me because it avoids so many video game cliches that it felt like something completely new and unpredictable.

This game is just… amazing. It has great controls, great graphics, a great story, great setting, great enemies… literally everything.

2. Team Fortress 2
3. Fallout: New Vegas
4. Guitar Hero (the whole series)
5. Skate 3
6. Left 4 Dead 2
7. Madden NFL 15
8. MTX Mototrax
9. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4
10. Roller Coaster Tycoon 2

I fucking love this game, i love it for just about everything, the story, the gameplay, the characters, everything is just so good

I love how you start off as this hardly known pilot who a over the progress of the game shoots down dozens of aces until he builds this reputation as an unbeatable badass of the air, and as a result whenever you show up on the battlefield everyone is either terrified by your presence or they all want a piece of you. It's so satisfying to go up against cocky enemy aces that are sure beyond a doubt that the'r skill will make them victorious and after a grueling dog fight you end up victorious and everyone around you is just awe struck that a human being could accomplish something that.

The the characters are unique and each have their own motivations for why they fight, and the interviews afterwords gives you a real in depth look into their personality and how they both feared and respected you.

And each enemy ace has their own way of flying so the game doesn't just end up being a, "trail this person and shoot missiles until they die" type game-play, if your a veteran to the ace combat series, playing it on any difficulty other than "Ace" is just boring and way to easy, but even for beginners the game know how to be challenging without being a rip-your-hair-out difficult.

All in all this is my favorite game ever and i doubt their will be other games that will be able to top this one for me.

My favorite game of all time, without question, is

Persona fucking 3

Everything about this game makes me want to smile and/or cry. Every moment of this game fills me with some sort of emotion without fail. I invested months upon months into this game in 7th grade. I remember trying to max as many social links as possible, completing the compendium, going on GameFAQs to figure out when I could finally bone Mitsuru. It really was a grand time.

Backstory time… Back then (and still now), I had hardcore thanatophobia. The game really helped me think about death in a more peaceful and distanced view. I do think it was a little much for me to take in at 13 though…
