I saw recently some speculations about Nintendo Direct coming soon and it turns out they were true. Get your soy ready for 50 minutes of announcements that for once won't be relating to a single franchise or third parties. Description mentions Smash Bros so likely we will be getting new character reveal.

Stream begins 2/17 at 2 p.m. PT

What I think is guaranteed:

-New Smash Ultimate fighter announced, and a date is given for when Sakurai will do his fighter demonstration video. Who could the character be? My current guesses are leaning towards either Crash Bandicoot or Ryu Hyabusa.
-Animal Crossing: New Horizons spring update shown off, showcasing new events, villagers, and items
-Virtuos' big third party port is confirmed during this Direct (my guess on what it might be is either Borderlands 3 or they're the ones doing Switch ports of the Kingdom Hearts series, which I think has to happen eventually given KH just got confirmed for PC recently and the pre-KH3 games are headed to Xbox)

What I'm hoping for:

-Something for Zelda's 35th anniversary that will release in late spring or early summer, like a Zelda Collection which contains Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker HD, and Twilight Princess HD. Alternatively the long rumored remaster of Skyward Sword is announced.
-A new system to be added to Nintendo Switch Online, likely either N64 or Game Boy
-Western release date for SMT3: Nocturne HD is announced (and I'm sure the Western release will launch with all the patches the Japanese version got, as the JP version was rather rough at launch but I heard they eventually ironed it out)
-The rumored Resident Evil side project that is either Revelations 3 or something similar is confirmed as a timed Switch exclusive

What I'd like to see but doubt will happen:

-Super Mario 3D All-Stars as a package will be gone by March 31 but the three individual games will just be sold separately on the eShop at $20 a pop, and a remaster of Galaxy 2 will launch in April
-Super Mario 35 moves from being free-to-play to becoming a paid game at like $5 so the only thing ending on March 31 is the free-to-play aspect
-New BOTW2 trailer (reason I doubt this will be there is they said they're mainly focusing on stuff releasing in the first half of 2021, and if BOTW 2 does come out this year then it's a holiday title for sure)

Man I can't wait for LarryBoy from LarryBoy and the Bad Apple to be announced for Smash Ultimate

Also please give me, a starving metroid gamer, some metroid or at least a release date for Axiom Verge 2

And your next Smash character is Pyra (Mythra echo fighter) from Xenoblade Chronicles 2!

Mythra is an alternate form, not echo.

Here's a recap (I've omitted games I already knew about):

- Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are coming to Smash – It's a single character that swaps between two which might be a spoiler? Enjoy your waifu dose
- Fall Guys, Outer Wilds, Tales from Borderlands, Stubbs The Zombie (…), Plant's vs Zombies of Duty and Hades are coming to Switch
- Famicom Detective games remake – Never heard of those, but its a pretty good looking for a visual novel
- Samurai Warriors 5 – Dynasty Warriors, but in Japan
- Legend Of Mana remake – It looks really weird due to mixing of pixelart and HD pictures
- Mario Golf Super Rush – Why wasn't this announced during anniversary stream?
- Capcom Arcade Stadium – Package of Capcom games
- Neon White – A rougelike first person shooter with card game elements that looks like white Hades.
- DC Super Heroes Girls: Teen Power – No one asked
- Miitopia – Upgraded version of 3DS title. Now with makeup and wigs.
- Super Mario Items for Animal Crossing New Horizons – It took a Mario crossover to get you proper interactive items
- Project Triangle Startegy – It's a Octopath Traveler sequel? It looks like one, but plays more like Fire Emblem
- Star Wars Hunters – Nothing is shown. Might as well be Star Wars: Detours
- Knockout City- EA Cringe
- World's End Club – Danganrompa, except it derails into a wholesome trip through post apocalyptic Japan.
- Hades – physical release with a PC soundtrack code
- Ninja Gaiden Master Collection – Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1, 2 and 3
- More Hyrule Warriors 2 stuff
- SaGa Frontier Remastered
- Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD – No Breath of the Wild 2 though
- Splatoon 3 – I really thought Splatoon 2 came out two years ago. Coming 2022.
- Lol no Metroid

Overall, not a bad showing.

Pythra will make a lot of the Xenoblade fans happy (still want Ryu Hayabusa myself, though).

Nintendo is late to the Fall Guys hype.

I worry about them oversaturating Splatoon.

A lot of the 3rd party stuff is a solid "meh".

I give it a B+.

-You thought it's be Rex & and Pyra? Lol no it's just Pyra (and Mythra)! I don't really have anything bad to say about this other than it's not Reimu, I just wish Etika was here to see his baby girls get into Smash…

-People have been saying that a Skyward Sword remake was never gonna happen because of the janky controls, but I'm happy that they've been proven wrong! Too bad there's no news on BOTW 2 though…

-Nor Metroid Prime 4, nor Pikmin 4, nor Pokemon gen 4 remake…

-Man, has it really been 7 years since the first ever reveal of Splatoon? It still feels like yesterday when Nintendo revealed the game for the first time at E3. It's nice to see how far it has come.

My brother expected Dante to appear. Me and him went through the entire Direct and were disappointed.
Instead of him we got some anime tiddy girl from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (I prefer the art style from the first game).

Eh, it was okay. I'm not really interested in Xenoblade but at least Pyra and Mythra are distinct enough as a fighter to make me like them.

Hades port is pretty nice too

No More Heroes 3 info is always welcome

World's End Club is oddly interesting to me

Triangle Strategy did not need to take up that much time

Splatoon 3? I hope the singleplayer is good because using Nintendo's servers terrifies me (and it looks like it's going to be)

That DC Superhero Girls thing really stuck out in a weird way, it looked like an odd thing to put in but then I noticed "hold the fuck up, NINTENDO is publishing this?!" which now has me wondering who the hell the developer is because that will determine if the game has a chance of being a case of "holy shit it's actually good, what the hell?"

About time the Ninja Gaiden collection got announced, I was hearing rumors of it for months (and at one point it was rumored it might be a VGA announcement). I never played the Sigma versions of NG1 and 2 but I do remember playing Razor's Edge on the Wii U but it had weird performance issues in some spots, so now I'll get to play a version that should hopefully maintain a stable 60 throughout.

Skyward Sword HD's controls for non-motion players actually sound like what I expected, using the right stick. Hopefully it's well tuned, but I'm also curious to see if the motion controls actually feel smoother on Switch than they did using a Motion+ controller on the Wii.

World's End Club was a pleasant surprise, a game from the Danganronpa devs that first starts off looking like it's a DR game but then turns out to be something very different.

Splatoon 3 really caught me by surprise, I didn't expect we'd get another entry this gen, I thought they'd save it for the Switch successor, but I guess the devs have plenty of ideas to justify a sequel in the same gen.

Also while it's one of the smaller announcements, Stubbs the Zombie is a game I've been interested in playing for quite some time and I'm glad to see it's finally getting a remaster. What I recall about this game is back when it came out on the OG Xbox it was advertised as running on the Halo engine (I think ex-Bungie devs made it), so that's a little fun fact. Still I've been interested in checking it out as it sounds like a neat action strategy game.

I got my BINGO card ready

OK, not a whole BINGO, but I still really liked what I've seen in that Direct. I'll just share the ones that caught my attention.

On BINGO card:
-Pyra/Mythra in Smash. I've been considering getting Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for years now (wasn't a fan of the combat system, I tried it with Torna at least), and their inclusion gives me more reasons now. They certainly look fun to play, especially being a 2-in-1 character like Zelda/Sheik back in Melee.

-Skyward Sword HD. Let's face it, we all thought it would happen and while I wish they touched up the graphics more, I love how smooth the game play looks with that 60 fps. Plus the option to turn off motion controls is very nice, I liked Skyward Sword's motion controls but I'd rather not do that if I'm playing on the go.

-ONE MORE THING: Splatoon 3. I'm hooked, like who saw that one coming? Some felt it's too soon, but it's really been 4 years since Splatoon 2 came out, technically 5 since it launches in 2022. Looks a lot more dynamic than Splatoon 2, hopefully it's got a good single player campaign based on how that trailer started.

Not on BINGO card:
-Mario Golf Speed Rush. I'm actually liking this entry in Mario Golf, it looks like it'd be very fun to play in my spare time.

-DC Superhero Girls, that one was just utter confusion. I was laughing at the presentation, but of all the things to see in a Nintendo Direct that's the last thing I'd expect. I feel like this is what we got while Japan got the Crayon Shin-chan game.

From what I heard in the trailer, not only the creators of Danganronpa are involved in the project, the crew of the Zero Escape saga are in it too. That alone has me hooked.

This was aired on my birthday. Unfortunately I wasn't there because there's a terrible winter storm going on and my current hometown just lost all power and internet due to the weather.

At least there's some classic Squaresoft remasters I'm looking forward to like Legend of Mana and Saga Frontier.
