The Redux version of Last Light isn't much different from the base release so it's fine. The Redux version of 2033 was a significant update though since they updated it to the Last Light engine and incorporated mechanics from said game and other changes like how certain cutscenes play out and also redubbing Artyom (he got a new VA in Last Light). The Redux version of Last Light is more significant on console since on that front it was first released on PS3 and Xbox 360 where it ran at a max resolution of 720p and framerate of 30 at best, but the Redux version was on PS4 and Xbox One so it ups FPS to 60 and resolution to 1080p.

I played the original Metro 2033, then was disappointed by Last Light. Does the Redux version make it closer in design to Last Light, oriented more towards action rather than the "do whatever you want, just get past this section" attitude of the original?

You can choose. It presents an option when starting a new game on if you want to play it more like vanilla Metro 2033 or if you want to play it more like Last Light instead.

That's really neat. Interesting to know that they realised how different Last Light was from 2023.
