I recall the head of MonolithSoft saying he'd love to port the game to Switch, but would need to overcome the technical hurdle regarding the "asset packs" that the Wii U version used to speed up loading. Guess they finally figured something out because now it's finally coming, and just in time for the 10th anniversary of the original release. I know some folk might already be going "are they gonna restore the boob slider in this version?" but I doubt it. Tokyo Mirage Sessions on Switch used the Western version as the basis for the port due to it being more recent, which apparently also means it's the best version to use for porting, so I imagine XCX will be the same. Regardless, I just think it's awesome at long last the entire Xenoblade franchise will be on the Switch.

Like what happened with Age of Calamity, this is yet another major game announcement out of the blue by Nintendo.
I actually like Nintendo just doing stuff like this, and I think more companies ought to do "Stealth drops" like this, where some major game release gets announced outside of Game conventions or Directs. Pick any unassuming day in the year and just randomly make some major announcement.
Might be worth bringing up that supposedly much of Nintendo's release schedule in 2025 leading up to the Switch 2 is going to be very port and remaster heavy, as their "A teams" are focused almost 100% on Switch 2 development now. Metroid Prime 4 is a notable exception of course, but I'm still maintaining that that game is going to be crossgen with a Switch 2 version launching with the console. Just based on the fact XCX is not launching until the second half of March, I think Switch 2 is going to be released in the fall next year.
Supposedly Nintendo's also contracted assorted third parties to port and/or remaster various games for the Switch to hold people over, with some rumors including Ubisoft doing something involving Rayman and Driver (supposedly the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team is making a Rayman project), and EA and Bandai-Namco planning some kind of unknown remasters.
All that's really left from the Wii U now after Xenoblade Chronicles X is Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD, it's genuinely shocking to me Nintendo still has not brought those over.
Between this and the rapid-fire NSO announcements for this month (F-Zero Legends, F-Zero Climax, Banjo-Tooie, Turok 2, Shadowman), Nintendo could casually and unpredictably debut the Switch 2 at 3 AM and everyone would be instantly glued to their screens.
Since Switch 2 was mentioned here, I believe the console should come in Q2 of 2026 to be actually great.
I saw some stuff Wii U had unlike Swtich made me think Switch 2 should do backwards compatibility like 3DS did.
Make sure it's $499 maximum.
More features. No Denuvo.
You get even better Switch.
