In the light of Doxydoo getting their tumblr reported and nuked by a butthurt Steven Universe fan, it's got some nsfw artists like myself a bit worried… These nukes have been happening a bit lately, but none bigger than Doxy, who lost over 50k followers. All because some SU fan got all pissy, and because Tumblr's report system is broken. They received no warning and no reasoning. Some are also speculating that it is actually in Yahoo's best interests to get porn off of tumblr, as some advertisers are uncomfortable with advertising there if there's porn. These witch hunting sjws are the perfect conduit for this, all it takes is one offended person, and someone's life work can be gone in an instant… So, some have recommended Nsfw artists find somewhere else to call home. What do you guys think?

I'd say, knowing how people and websites can loose their shit out of nowhere with NSWF stuff (this is not news), not having it backed up on multiple websites is probably a pretty stupid idea.

Some people have been backing it up on Soup.io (Which i've made an account on it for now), but it's not very…. efficient, in how you browse it, and it's certainly not as good functionally as tumblr.

For storage, yea. But NSFW artists use tumblr to reach out to people who would be interested, and it allows small time artists to get their name out. This is in danger because of the SJWs.

Back up/host elsewhere, link wherever that is in your tumblr post on top of posting the art there as well.

Ok, i reaaaaallly don't wanna seem rude, but you guys are missing the fact that most NSFW artists don't tumblr for storage, they use it for getting new fans and followers and potential commissions.

If it's furry stuff, then try Furaffinity. And technically, DeviantArt allows NSFW stuff, though I'm not sure how it works. And if you don't care about popularity, using blogger might work.

Personally, I think Tumblr's still your best bet unless you do some reeeeealy niche nsfw stuff. Yes, stuff like this happens, and it's reasonable to be nervous, but I wouldn't engage full freak out mode just yet.

DeviantArt doesn't allow porn. Tasteful nudes, yea, but no penetration to my knowledge.

Which is why I said to link your art website through your tumblr posts where you'd still post the art to be liked and reblogged, but you're also directing traffic to a site you could actually monetize. I have never understood why tumblr artists don't do that, you get recognition on tumblr but you're not using it very effectively if you solely exist on tumblr.

Where would said art website be? Porn artists usually are too poor for afford their own website hosting. And just about every other free social networking site has staunch porn bans or simply aren't as effective at presenting artwork.

Tumblr is pretty much the last decent place porn artists can start a profile on without being forced into the obscure parts of the web, and now the prude warriors are waging war on it too which rustles my jimmies

I'll say to you what I said to him. Hentai Foundry is great for storage, not for getting new followers and fans, which is what Tumblr is brilliant for, in terms of creativity.

GoDaddy doesn't restrict adult content. Through Website Builder it's less than $100 a year, and still even less if you get a domain through GD and code it yourself. If you can't afford $100 bucks over a year, you're a stunning example of why artists should get the hell off tumblr exclusively.

Yes because there aren't other things in life that cost money, like food, bills, taxes. Let's just add another thing on top just so I can host my porn somewhere! Yea, no. The reason artists flock to Tumblr is because A) It's free B) It has a large userbase and C) It is functional. Plus, making a website is hard. Not everyone is a coding wiz. Most artists make like no money, and you're assuming that we can still spare $100 after other costs? Get real.

You get real. It's less than $8 a month that opens an opportunity to make hundreds off ad views alone, on top of selling art if you choose. I recommended the website builder specifically for people who can't code, that less than $100 a year comes with free templates that are fully customizable and as easy as pointing and clicking.

Exactly. Like I said, there are other costs in life. Plus, I just plain don't think we have to run with our tails between our legs. Every artist has the right to post what they want on their blog (unless it violates the website's rules, which the comic that Doxy made that caused this whole thing did not). We should not have to be scared of people like this. And besides, it probably wasn't even a person that deleted his blog, it was most likely a banning robot, similar to Youtube's copyright bot. I don't think it's time to drop the doomsday bomb on the tumblr porn community just yet. You should definitely have your work backed up on other sites, or your own website if you can afford it, and on your computer, that's just common sense, but I wouldn't give up the ghost on tumblr. One of the founding appeals of tumblr was it's hosting of NSFW blogs, and for every nutbag that's going to get one blog banned, there's going to be a bunch of people backing up the artists and supporting their right to have their blog. Doxy has 50K+ followers, and you think there isn't a single one in that bunch that would fight back against this? Strength in numbers, bro. If enough people in the community want it and make it known, then it will stay.

Considering the sheer number of NSFW blogs and followers of those blogs, it would seem to hurt tumblr's bottom line more than help it to have that many users shoved off the site. Ad revenue isn't going to mean very much if a ridiculously large chunk of the community is going to be cut away from that potential ad revenue. I've also never heard of a site struggling before because certain advertisers didn't want their name connected to NSFW sites. But I digress, I don't work in advertising so I could be completely wrong.

Well for one, there's pixiv. It allows albums (multiple images under the same post) and tags. However, you need an account to see R-18 material (might be a minor annoyance if you are familiar to FA or dA, i'd guess), but more importantly, it's first and foremost a japanese website, with global support in second importance, this can be seen in the tags

Yeah, it sounds stupid considering that you [ie. an user with an account] can label a tumblr as nsfw in your options (this makes people unable to search your blog from the main page unless you have an account that allows the search of nsfw content, or use google). That said, i've seen complains of people finding nsfw content on otherwise sfw blogs (either reblogs or from blogs who make a variety of content with some lewds inbetween).

Your own website has its benefits, but it's not a replacement for a huge community like Tumblr that makes content sharing easy, not unless you really know what you doing with the technology (which I imagine most artists don't). Furthermore, if it's storage you want, you are better off with Booru sites or Imgur

But I know just how easy it is to set up a website. Technicalities and difficulty isn't the reason I disagree with you.

What I don't like is the thought of a commonly enjoyed civil liberty being downtrodden in the name of a few peoples unnecessary outrage. Tumblr has all the provisions necessary for what these artists are trying to do, and they've been using it without any problems for years. There really is no reason why they should be expected to sacrifice this efficiency and bend over backwards just because somebody got offended.

Most NSFW tumblr blogs come with fair warnings. You don't have to see anything you don't want to. The only reason people are up in arms right now is purely petty reasons as far as I can tell. Basically someone doesn't wan't their precious holy cartoon to be corrupted by the demonic influence of Sodom and Gomorrah. Whoop de doo.

Frankly, I think people who don't like the smut should stop being petty and childish and learn to deal with the fact that smut exists, and has just as much right to exist as all the other content. Why do people have to be such pansies about it?

Those are legitimate concerns, but then that brings up a whole other question of why staff could not just improve the system to prevent that (granted tumblr staff does a poor job of improving anything) and why one would think removing every bit of NSFW material is even close to a reasonable solution to that problem

Problem seems to be that the system interprets the "nsfw" tag on posts on the same level as other tags ("my stuff", "rant", "food", etc.). Some people simply aren't interested, i can understand. Other legitimate problem seems to be the difficulty to search for specific posts, the best i've got is to open a search engine and put site:[user].tumblr.com along what you're searching for. Website owners tend to turn a blind eye on tech stuff unless it literally breaks the site.
