At least its an ending. Its not an eternal cliffhanger where they just go off the grid
2018, you have less than 2 weeks left, PLEASE stop hurting me like this . . .
Let's Players and other content creators let us into a tiny part of their lives, keeping the rest private. No matter how well you may think you know them, even after listening to them speak for many hours, you still only have access to the parts of their personality they allow. We are not entitled to anything more. For example, all those pathetic conspiracy threads about why Jon left Game Grumps are just hearsay by people who believe they have divined the situation well enough to place blame despite not knowing anyone involved. There are many reasons why a professional group breaks up: personality clashes, burnout, unhealthy audience-performer relationships, etc. Really, we don't know and don't need to know.
But that ain't gonna stop me.
When Liam left, I felt a little sad because I liked what he contributed, but I didn't think it would have any long-term ramifications on the Best Friends. As much as I liked what he did, he wasn't exactly the centerpiece of the group. Looking back, it may have been a warning sign that all was not well behind the scenes. When they all started focussing on their solo channels, part of me wondered if divisions were forming. Still, I was surprised when I heard they split up. Even if it didn't come completely out of nowhere, I figured there would be some kind of public sniping between the crew before it happened. Apparently, they were able to keep the arguments totally behind closed doors. I'd be interested to know if anyone saw warning signs I did not.
I feel bad for Woolie. Since Matt and Pat were the core of the group from day 1, if they broke it off, he was out of luck and had no control over it. He's always seemed like the team's voice-of-reason, so it was wise to have him introduce the video and I will continue to follow his material. That leads to the bright side that we still have the solo channels, which are genuinely good in their own right. Matt in particular has come up with some good series like What Happened and Edgelords. Also, they should still be appearing at conventions. I saw Matt and Liam together in Atlanta just six months ago. Hopefully, there will be plenty more content and collaborations to come.
