About
Opera is a free, multi-platform web browser[1] available for Windows, Mac, Linux , Android and iOS. It was developed by Opera [2].
History
Opera began as a research project at Telenor on 1994. On 1995, the project branched off into a separate company called Opera Software ASA. The first version to be released to the public was in 1996 which at that time Opera was called MultiTorg Opera (show below).
MSN controversy
On October 24, 2001, Microsoft blocking access to MSN for users not using Internet Explore this includes Opera. After accusations of monopolistic behavior, Microsoft lifted the restrictions two days later. But Opera users were still blocked from some parts of MSN content.
Hotmail controversy
On November 2004, Opera sent an email to Microsoft complaining that Opera users were being sent an incomplete JavaScript file when using Hotmail. The incomplete file prevented Opera users from emptying their "Junk Email" folders. Opera later sent a physical letter to Microsoft. But, as of February 11, 2005, Microsoft did not respond to messages or correct the problem.
Opera GX
Opera GX is a gaming oriented counterpart of Opera. Opera GX was announced on by Opera on Twitter[3] June 7th, 2019, and it was released for Windows on June 11th, 2019 (show below).
