About
Lies of P is an upcoming action video game developed by NeoWiz based on the story of Pinocchio. The game generated significant hype ahead of its 2023 release date due to what many felt were its FromSoftware-like aesthetics, noting it looked quite similar to Bloodborne.
History
On May 19th, 2021, NeoWiz released the announcement trailer for Lies of P. The video, published by IGN, gained over 1.1 million views in one year (shown below). It shows off the city of Krat, an English town that has befallen a plague. Polygon[1] compared the look of the game to Bloodborne, a comparison that stuck with the game through subsequent trailers and announcements.
On November 8th, 2021, NeoWiz released the alpha teaser for Lies of P. GameSpot's upload of the teaser (shown below) gained over 1.1 million views in 10 months. The teaser showed off Pinocchio as the protagonist using a myriad of weapons and buffs.
On August 23rd, 2022, NeoWiz released a gameplay trailer (shown below, left), and 12 minutes of gameplay footage was released online later that day (shown below, right).
In interviews, director Jiwon Choi revealed that the game will have a "lying" system in which players will be forced to choose between telling the truth or lying about certain events and that these choices would alter the story.[2]
The game is slated for a 2023 release and will come out on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles and PC.[2]
Online Presence
Lies of P has generated significant hype ahead of its release dating back to its initial reveal in mid-2021. Many of its teasers and trailers have surpassed 1 million views on YouTube. A subreddit[3] for the game, /r/liesofp, was created the day its announcement trailer was released and gained over 900 subscribers in 15 months. The game's Twitter account,[4] created in July 2021, gained over 13,000 followers in 13 months.
Fan art regularly appeared online after each reveal trailer, particularly for Pinocchio. For example, Twitter user @viridiandrop[5] posted art on August 23rd, 2022, gaining over 70 likes in one week (shown below, left). On August 24th, Twitter user @RabbitBVT[6] posted art that gained over 25 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).
