And Just Like That… refers to parodies of a tweet by politician and Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon announcing that the filming of the Sex and the City reboot had begun. The tweet shows a picture of Nixon, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kristin Davis walking in New York City. Notably, Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha in the original run of the show, was absent, as she decided not to join the reboot. After Nixon's tweet, Twitter users created photoshops imagining the replacement for the absent Cattrall.
On July 9th, 2021, Cynthia Nixon tweeted, "And just like that, it was day one!!" along with a picture of herself and Sex and the City co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis on the set filming the Sex and the City reboot. The tweet gained over 2,700 retweets, 1,600 quote-tweets and 33,000 likes (shown below).
The tweet quickly became the subject of parodies for the notable absence of Kim Cattrall. Twitter users began photoshopping a fourth character into the image to take Cattrall's place. For example, user @KevinJZak tweeted a parody featuring Whoopi Goldberg's character from Sister Act, gaining over 260 retweets and 2,400 likes (shown below, left). Twitter user @HAlanScott tweeted a picture of Andrew McCarthy holding a picture of a mannequin from the 1987 film The Mannequin, which starred Kim Cattrall in the title role as a mannequin who comes to life (shown below, right). The picture was reposted by McCarthy, gaining over 4,700 retweets and 49,000 likes (shown below, right).
