Astro Slide is a dance trend that became popular on TikTok after it's creator, Astro, went viral for performing his routine in late 2023. The dance trend, featuring both arm and leg movements, started to get popular in early 2024 as more people began to pick it up and streamers reacted to it. It follows similar dancing trends like The Luddy and Fireball Dance in becoming popular after going viral on social media.

Origin

Starting in late September 2023, the TikToker Astro would upload different variations of him doing dance moves featuring arm and leg twists. He would continue to upload dances, with different moves for the opening or middle, until his November 20th upload. In this version^[1], he can be seen dancing backwards towards the camera before doing a slow turnaround, pointing, then doing a shuffle back step with arm movement. This version would receive over 10,000 likes in two months and be the base version of the dance for others to build off of (shown below).

Spread

The dance continued to have slight variations added to it by other dancers until the TikToker danchmerk_^[2] uploaded his version of it. In the TikTok uploaded on January 10th, 2024, Danchmerk keeps the backward shuffle twist into a jump-turn before changing up the arm movement and adding in more movements. This version of the dance would later be reposted as the new foundation to build off of (shown below).

In late January 2024, the dance started to pick up traction with dancing and hip-hop accounts reposting it to their followers. On January 21st, 2024, the TikToker TrapNation^[3] reposted the dance performed by TikToker natiuv2^[4], with the TrapNation post receiving over 656,000 likes in five days (shown below).
