Azel Cooking refers to a video from Italian YouTuber Azel, showing him doing some dances moves while listening to electronic music. In memes, the video has often been edited to make it appear as if Azel is trying to cook some food or do another unrelated action.

Origin

The original clip comes from a July 24th, 2022 upload by Azel, which is just over thirty seconds long and titled "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT". The video earned over 500,000 views and 45,000 likes in three weeks.[7]



On November 6th, 2021, Azel uploaded his first video about reacting to various electronic music tracks.[1] The video received more than 510,000 views in 10 months (shown below, left). Starting that day, he began to regularly upload similar content. On February 26th, 2022, Azel[2] uploaded his most popular video, that received more than 1.4 million views in seven months (shown below, right).

In the late summer of 2022, the video became popular as an exploitable, mostly about cooking, and especially on Facebook and YouTube. For example on August 15th, 2022, Facebook user Paul Johnley Evangelista uploaded an edit of Azel's video where he appears to cook the famous Filipino fish Chicken Adobo. The video received more than one million views and 25,000 shares in three weeks (shown below, left).[3] On August 24th, 2022, Facebook user P a a n s i h ? uploaded video of Azel cooking Satay, an Indonesian cuisine.[4] The video received more than 18,000 reactions, 5,000 shares and over 400,000 views in two weeks (shown below, right).



On August 23rd, 2022, YouTube[5] user Ya Begitulah uploaded a video about a kid receiving a new phone from his father for studying purposes, but then deciding to instead use the phone to play games. The video received more than 268,000 views in two weeks (shown below, left). On August 28th, 2022, YouTube[6] user Layzzz uploaded video about a boy cooking noodle while he live in the house alone. The video received more than 137,000 views in one week (shown below, right).
