Beige Flag or Beige Flags is a slang term referring to potential warning signs that someone might be boring. Inspired by the related term red flags, which are warning signs about someone's behavior that imply negative connotations about them, the name "beige flag" was originally coined by TikToker @itscaito in May 2022 and became increasingly popularized over the following months as she posted videos discussing people's various beige flags.

Origin

On May 8th, 2022, TikToker[1] @itscaito posted a video where she goes over a list of beige flags, explaining how she coined the term to mean "signs you're probably very boring." The video garnered over 512,000 views in four months (shown below).

Spread

The TikToker continued to post videos about beige flags over the following months in mid-2022, including a series where she reviewed dating profiles and called out beige flags she perceived in them (examples shown below).

On June 22nd, 2022, "The AA Meeting" podcast discussed beige flags, posting a clip to TikTok[2] of the discussion that gained over 180,000 views in three months (shown below, left). On August 11th, @itscatio posted a video to TikTok[3] where she reviewed a girl's profile for beige flags, garnering over 1.2 million views in a month (shown below).

On September 2nd, an Urban Dictionary[4] user defined the term, writing, "Beige flags are a sign that someone is boring or lacks originality." On September 12th, The Guardian[5] and Indy100[6] then posted articles about beige flags.
