ORIGIN
Boom De Yada is a commercial for the Discovery Channel in which several of the Discovery Channel stars, such as Mike Rowe and Bear Grylls, come together to sing a song about their favorite parts of the world to the tune of Hoagy Carmichael's 1938 song, "Heart & Soul", which was also adapted into a traditional camping song called "I Love The Mountain".
SPREAD AND POPULARITYThe extreme catchiness of the song, plus the easiness of rewriting the lyrics have made this hugely popular to use in AMV's, cover, or parody, thus resulting in it's meme status.
Discovery Channel has since covered the song in concert
as well as making a sequel
and a creating a fan made video for Shark Week
