Boring. Yawning. Sloppy. Lazy. refers to a clip of American television personality Abby Lee Miller makes a displeased comment at a group of dancing students on Dance Moms reality series. Staring in August 2022, the clip saw use as a reaction on X / Twitter, while the soundbite achieved popularity on TikTok.

Origin

On May 3rd, 2016, episode 18 "One Last Dance" of the reality television series Dance Moms premiered in the United States.[1] In the episode, show's chief choreographer Abby Lee Miller criticizes a group of girls practicing their dance, commenting, "Boring. Yawning. Sloppy." In a "talking head" interview, Miller adds, "Lazy" (clip shown below).

On August 10th, 2022, TikTok[2] account areallyboredhuman uploaded the clip, with the post gaining over 637,600 views and 63,100 likes in one year. Also that day, X[3] account @gay_reactions posted a video that received over 160 reposts and 1,000 likes in one year.

Spread

In the second half of 2022, the soundbite saw spread on TikTok. For example, on September 27th, singer and former Dance Moms participant JoJo Siwa posted a TikTok[4] video with the soundbite, which was used to brush off social media hate. The upload (shown below, left) received over 3.8 million views and 223,000 likes in one year. On October 28th, 2022, TikTok[5] user @urugly1232 used the soundbite in her video about lazy openers, with the post finding over 733,600 views and 213,400 likes in one year (shown below, right).

The soundbite achieved particular popularity in videos in which people rated certain things, such as decorations and expensive houses. For example, on November 30th, 2022, TikToker[6] davidsballoons posted a clip that gained over 2.5 million views and 524,000 likes in ten months (shown below, left). On December 26th, TikToker[7] @kst0kes posted a humorous video about modern art that received over 6.3 million views and 1.5 million likes in nine months (shown below, right).
