About

The Doechii Asian Voice Controversy refers to a controversy surrounding a video of singer-songwriter and rapper Doechii seemingly speaking in an exaggerated Asian accent, which some called racist. The clip was from one of Doechii's old YouTube videos. It was shared on Twitter / X in late April 2025. As it spread, some people agreed with the original poster's claim while others disagreed, stating that it was not an Asian accent. The tweet was also speculated to be rage bait aimed at Doechii's fans, following a series of memes making fun of the singer and her song "Anxiety," which also surfaced en masse online in April 2025.

Origin

On April 26th, 2025, X[1] user @SPICE2K tweeted a clip of singer-songwriter Doechii, captioning it, "Doechii mocks Asians in resurfaced video." Doechii is seen in a room, wearing a tank top, speaking in an affected voice, "Not today, not today, Doechii, no, no, no." Over two days, the tweet received over 43.5 million views and 70,000 likes (shown below).

The clip was sourced from one of Doechii's old YouTube[2] videos called "Story Time: My First Fight!" which was posted on March 23rd, 2015, and it received over 170,700 views in 10 years. At the video's 4:22-minute mark (shown below), the so-called "Asian voice" clip starts.

Spread

The tweet received numerous reactions in the following days. Many people defended Doechii, such as X[3] user @chacha1000b on April 26th, 2025, who asked, "Am I being gaslit? Where’s Asians even mentioned?" gaining over 98,000 likes in two days (shown below).

Alternatively, others condemned Doechii, like X[4] user @queenosaragi on April 26th, who called Doechii's defenders "hypocrites," writing, "when an Asian does some racist shit, they lose their fucking minds, but when a Black person mocks Asians, they act like it’s no big fucking deal." Over two days, the quote tweet gained over 88,000 likes (shown below).
