About

Brow Crowns are a fashion trend in which people arrange their eyebrows such that they look like a crowd and top each section with a paste-on jewel. The trend has led to a polarized response from internet commenters.

Origin

The brow crown was created by Instagram user Sophie Petersen (sophiepeterseen)[1] on November 19th, 2017. Her post of her brow crown gained over 12,900 likes (shown below).

Spread

On November 20th, 2017, Allure[2] published an article on Petersen and her creation in which Petersen reported that she had seen a lot of backlash about her brows. Two days later, the trend was covered by Metro.[3] After that article was posted to Twitter, Twitter users began commenting on the trend. While many were skeptical and expressed their displeasure, some were excited. Twitter user @imcousinralph[4] simply tweeted "Beauty trend" in quotes, expressing sarcasm (shown below, left). On the other side, Twitter user @DonovanSnaps[5] expressed that she was intrigued, asking her followers if she should try it (shown below, right). The trend was also covered by Twitter Moments[6], The Sun[7], Yahoo! Finance[8] and Mashable.[9]
