Bus Girl or Blonde Girl On the Bus is a series of memes using an image of a blonde girl, thought to be Instagram user xsusann._, sitting on a bus or train on her phone, looking up into the camera with an unamused expression on her face. The photo started spreading online in 2018 and continued to spread over the following years as the subject of memes, including a viral example using images of The Avengers looking at her when she's looking down and looking away when she looks up, as if they were caught staring at her. While the location is often said to be a bus, it is purportedly a subway in Sweden.

Origin

On November 25th, 2018, iFunny^[1] user GermanHistory posted a photograph of a blonde girl sitting on a subway in Sweden, often referred to as a bus or train, on her phone, looking up with an unamused expression at the person taking a photo of her. A caption on the bottom of the image reads, "The girl on this bus won't stop looking at me…" The post gained over 90 smiles in seven years and is the earliest known use of the image as a meme.

It is suspected that the girl in the photograph is Instagram^[2] user xsusann., although this has not been officially confirmed, as her account is private and has no further available photographs. It has also been speculated that she is Lizette Scheich, an ex-_Counter Strike: GO pro.^[11]

Spread

The image of the girl, along with another image of her looking down at her phone, garnered viral spread over the following years. On November 27th, 2018, 9GAG^[3] user pusszydestroyah posted a compilation of the two images, writing, "When you see a body so thicc you can't resist a picc," garnering over 500 upvotes in seven years. On December 12th, her image was posted to /r/MemeEconomy,^[4] garnering over 420 upvotes in the same span of time.

On December 14th, 2019, X^[5] user @memescentrai posted a meme featuring the same two images stacked on top of one another next to two images of the Avengers. In the top image, the Avengers are looking towards her, and in the second, they're looking away (except for Thor), the joke being that they got caught staring and averted their gaze. The post gained over 260 likes in six years. It is unclear if this is the original post or a repost.

The meme was reposted by Facebook^[6] user Baby Monkey on September 25th, 2022, garnering over 157,000 reactions and 3,600 shares in three years.

On July 7th, 2023, X^[7] user @CaudilloXIV posted a version of the model vs. cashier meme comparing a photo of Zendaya to the bus girl, captioned, "Vogue model / Swedish girl at the metro," the implication being that the bus girl is more attractive than Zendaya, garnering over 51,000 likes in two years.

On March 26th, 2025, X^[8] user @wydtravis_ posted an exact recreation of the post by @CaudilloXIV, garnering over 10,000 likes and 1,500 reposts in two days. The post inspired some to defend Zendaya's looks. For example, that day, X^[9] user @ilyyyRuby quoted the post, writing, "It's so difficult to find a bad photo of Zendaya, they have to pull up photos from the one show where she plays a literal drug addict," garnering over 574,000 likes in two days.

On March 27th, X^[10] user @PAULWALL1900 quoted the post, "The average white person looks nothing like this no matter the ethnicity," garnering over 117,000 likes in a day.
