CalebCity's Putting Your Glasses Down refers to a viral YouTube sketch created by popular YouTube comedian Calebcity in which he pretends that everything is incomprehensible gibberish when he isn't wearing his glasses. In December 2019, TikTok users began to use the sound of the video to create their own panicked sketches.

Origin

On November 18th, 2019, CalebCity uploaded "Putting your glasses down for 5 SECONDS" to YouTube and received over 1.8 million views and 200,000 likes in a month (shown below).



Spread

On November 19th, 2019, CalebCity reposted his video to his @calebcity TikTok account and accumulated over 950,400 likes in a month. On November 30th, TikTok user @thisaintjay uploaded a video in which he uses the sound to recreate being in line with your mother at the grocery store (shown below, left). The video gained over 1.5 million likes in 17 days. On December 3rd, TikToker @denzelagyeman uploaded a video using the sound clip which received over 1.1 million likes in 13 days. The next day, TikTok user @ny.grant used the sound in a video recreating a baby's first interactions humans (shown below, right). The video garnered over 1.4 million likes in 11 days. As of December 16th, the sound clip has been used in over 23,700 videos.
