Origins
Although the clip originated from a “film” called “Indecline Vol. 1: It’s Worse Than You Think,” which is a compilation of fist fights, riots, graffiti, and skateboarding. The meme became popular when a user named nXtGenie uploaded a video on YouTube on 3/11/2007 called 'Crack Head Gangsta.' This video shows a middle-aged black man, apparently high on crack, hitting a car with a hammer at an intersection in Las Vegas, Nevada. Here is the original video
This video gained over 1.5 Million views and over 9000 favorites as of June 2010.
Variations
There are a few parodies, an example here is a video made by a user named kennyb1984420.
Another re-mix of the video includes the video 'Every Crack you Smoke' by GHCHambone. In addition, many users have uploaded the video claiming it as their own. A search of 'Crack head Gangsta' reveals almost 80 re-uploads, usually with a different title. Most of these videos have over 5000 videos.
Popularity
This chart here shows searches for 'Crack Head YouTube', which becomes popular as the most popular video gets the most views. (late 2007-early 2008) Weather this has any correlation is not known, however other 'crack head' videos were also posted around this time.
The Future
Most of the videos continue to rack up comments and favorites, though the latest a new re-upload was uploaded is early 2009. The general prediction is that the video could continue to be re-uploaded, and it is still rather popular within the YouTube community.
