Do You Wash Your Feet refers to a question posed on Twitter regarding showering habits following a debate over whether people should wash their legs or not in the shower.
Origin
On May 16th, 2019, Twitter user @KatieNews4[4] retweeted a news article about the leg washing debate and asked "Do you wash your feet? I'll admit, I don't usually wash the bottoms of my feet because a)they're already in all the soapy water at the bottom & b) it makes it scary slippery! Your thoughts?" (shown below). The tweet gained over 1,200 likes and 463 retweets in four days.
Precursor
On May 9th, 2019, Twitter user @Arpwel[1] began a leg washing debate by asking Twitter, "Do you wash your legs when you take a shower?" (shown below). The tweet gained over 2,100 retweets and 3,100 likes in four days. The question created an unprecedented divide between those who do wash their legs and those who don't.
On May 10th, 2019 many Twitter users responded similarly to Twitter user @ForeverTitianna[2] who said, "I donβt just wash.. I scrub e v e r y part of my body (with exfoliating gloves and a wash cloth), everyday in the shower. Including behind the ears, belly button and every other place your mind can imagine" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 10,000 likes in three days.
Other Twitter users responded light-heartedly. Twitter user @theshrillest[3] tweeted, "y'all really get in the shower and don't wash your legs? life is short but it ain't that short" (shown below, right).
Spread
On May 16th, 2019 , Twitter users began responding directly to @KatieNews4's tweet. Twitter user @AngNaomi responded saying, "Katie, that's dirty soap gathered around your feet. Scared of a slippery tub? They've been making anti-slip stuff for tubs for decades. Bless your heart. Jesus washed his feet!" (shown below). The tweet gained over 427 likes in four days.

That same day Twitter users also responded supporting @katieNews4's tweet with their own confessions about their feet washing habits. Twitter user @hybridization[5] tweeted, "I don't wash my feet unless they need to be washed. I know when they need to be washed, because they are my feet" (shown below, left). the tweet gained over 1,600 likes in four days. Twitter user @DJonBryce[6] voiced their opinion about the fact that any of these hygiene practices were being discussed at all (shown below, right). The tweet garnered over 5,400 likes in four days.
