Origin
The term "Dorgas" appeared in some Brazilian blogs in 2009. It all started with a dog from the Federal Brazilian Police that got its picture taken next to some packages of cocaine after a drug apprehension. The word "dorgas" comes from "drogas" ("drugs" in English), and sometimes comes with the words "mano" or "manolo", which mean "dude" or "maaan" in this case.
The origin of this meme is purported to be the Vale Tudo forum.
How does it work?
Every photo with an animal making a strange face or doing something strange can be applied to the "Dorgas" meme.
"Dorgas? Larguei!"
A second meme was created from the "Dorgas" meme, called "Dorgas? Larguei!" ("Drugs? I quit!"). The premise of the meme is to show how the animals from the "Dorgas" meme have quit drugs and are attempting to live normal human lives. For example, a YouTube video titled "Dorgas? Larguei! Agora sou motorista" ("Drugs? I quit! Now I am a driver") shows a dog driving a car.
