About

Spread
As #DontSpoilTheEndgame hashtag gained traction online, several major subreddits, including /r/dankmemes, /r/memes and /r/thanosdidnothingwrong, pledged to prevent any spoilers an unidentified period following the premiere. Multiple notable posts praising /r/dankmemes moderators for removing the spoilers from the subreddit were posted, with many examples referencing /r/dankmemes in-joke about about all subreddit moderators being gay. For example, on April 16th, 2018, Redditor StaticVenom posted a JonTron meme announcing that /r/dankmemes moderators were "promoted to bisexual". The post gained over 27,000 upvotes in nine days.[4]
In the same period, posts pledging to downvote any seen Endgame spoilers were posted in /r/thanosdidnothingwrong,[9] /r/dankmemes and other subreddits. For example, the first such post by Redditor NachNach16, made on April 16th, 2018, gained over 9,300 upvotes.[5]
In the following days, several users also made posts ridiculing the circlejerk (examples shown below).[6][7]

On May 2nd, 2019, major meme subreddits lifted the restriction, allowing submittions of posts containing spoilers provided they had been given the "spoiler" tag.
On the same day, Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo announced that #DontSpoilTheEndgame campaign will end on May 6th, 2019, ten days after the premiere of the film.[12]
On that day, /r/dankmemes,[13] /r/memes,[14] /r/thanosdidnothingwrong[15] and other subreddits started allowing posts containing spoilers without the "spoiler" tag.
