On April 16th, Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo tweeted an open letter in which they asked everyone not to spoil "Avengers: Endgame", launching #DontSpoilTheEndgame hashtag (shown below).[8] The tweet gained over 96,300 retweets and 206,000 likes.

To the greatest fans in the world This is it. This is the end. The end of an unprecedented narrative mosaid spanning eleven years and eleven franchises. For all of you who have been on this journey with us since the very beginning, sharing every high and low with your family, your friends, your classmates, your co-workers. Investing so deeply in every character and storyline. Laughing. Cheering. Shedding tears. Giving so freely of your thoughts and emotions in spirited dialogue, theories, fan art, and fan fiction. Please know that the two of us, along with everyone involved in Endgame, have worked tirelessly for the last three years with the sole intention of delivering a surprising and emotionally powerful conclusion to the Infinity Saga Because so many of you have invested your time, your hearts, and your souls into these stories, we're once again asking for your help When you see Endgame in the coming weeks, please don't spoil it for others, the same way you wouldn't want it spoiled for you. Remember, Thanos still demands your silence As always, good luck and happy viewing... The Russo Brothers #DontSpoilTheEndgame

Spread

As #DontSpoilTheEndgame hashtag gained traction online, several major subreddits, including /r/dankmemes, /r/memes and /r/thanosdidnothingwrong, pledged to prevent any spoilers an unidentified period following the premiere. Multiple notable posts praising /r/dankmemes moderators for removing the spoilers from the subreddit were posted, with many examples referencing /r/dankmemes in-joke about about all subreddit moderators being gay. For example, on April 16th, 2018, Redditor StaticVenom posted a JonTron meme announcing that /r/dankmemes moderators were "promoted to bisexual". The post gained over 27,000 upvotes in nine days.[4]

Staying off Reddit in case of Endgame Spoilers. Hoping that people are courteous enough not to post spoilers. Mods sacuifceing themselves to protect us from spoders and promoting them to bisexual

In the same period, posts pledging to downvote any seen Endgame spoilers were posted in /r/thanosdidnothingwrong,[9] /r/dankmemes and other subreddits. For example, the first such post by Redditor NachNach16, made on April 16th, 2018, gained over 9,300 upvotes.[5]

I,u/NachNach16, pledge to watch Endgame opening day, Sort by new, and downvote all spoilers

In the following days, several users also made posts ridiculing the circlejerk (examples shown below).[6][7]
