Captain America's Ass refers to a series of jokes and memes referencing a running joke in the 2019 Marvel superhero film Avengers: Endgame in which they call the character's buttocks "America's ass."

Origin

On April 22nd, 2019, the film Avengers: Endgame premiered in the United States. In the film, the character Tony Stark aka Iron Man says to Steve Rogers aka Captain America (portrayed by Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans, respectively), "Mr. Rogers, that old suit design did nothing for your ass." Scott Lang aka Ant-Man (portrayed by Paul Rudd) defends Rogers, "You look great, Cap. As far as I’m concerned, that’s America’s ass."

Later in the film, Rogers examines his own buttocks and says, "That is America's ass" (clip below).^[1]

Spread

Following the film's release, fans of the movie made jokes about the moment, referencing their appreciation for Captain America's rear end. For example, on April 28th, Twitter^[4] user @evanswrth tweeted, "scott lang: thank you CAPTAIN america. cap. steve. captain AMERICA. THE national treasure. an icon. by the way we love your ass." The post received more than 18,000 retweets and 78,000 likes in four days (shown below, left).

On April 29th, Twitter ^[2] user @goodbeanalt posted a DNA a double helix comprised of a United States flag and peach emojis. The post received more than 167,000 retweets and 666,000 likes in three days (shown below, center). The following day, Twitter^[3] user @STEVEROGERSBUTT tweeted a series of American flag emojis in the shape of a buttocks. The post received more than 63,000 retweets and 278,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Others posted reaction videos about the joke. For example, on April 29th, Twitter user @thorstrilogy posted a video of one boy showing off his buttocks to another boy, implying that the boy showing his buttocks was Rogers. The post received more than 65,000 retweets and 220,000 likes in three days (shown below).

Several media outlet covered the meme, including BuzzFeed, ^[5] ComicBook.com,^[6] PopBuzz^[1] and more.
