Indonesian Child Rights Official Statement About Woman Can Get Pregnant in Swimming Pool refers to statement from Komisi Perlindungan Anak Indonesia (English: Indonesian Child Rights Official) claimed that woman can get pregnant in swimming pool if woman swimming together with man in same swimming pool.
Background
On February, 24th 2020, Indonesian media outlet Liputan6[1] released an article about statement by Indonesian Child Rights Official Commissioner Sitti Hikmawatti claimed that woman can get pregnant without penetration in swimming pool if woman swimming together with man in same swimming pool (shown below).
She claimed it would happen when man suddenly being horny when swimming with woman and accidentally his sperm spreading in the swimming pool only if he have strong sperm.
"sperma tertentu yang sangat kuat, walaupun tidak terjadi penetrasi, tapi ada pria terangsang dan mengeluarkan sperma, dapat terindikasi hamil," (English: Some sperms probably strong, even without penetration, if there is a man horny and accidentally his sperm was came, it probably make woman (on the same pool) get pregnant) says Sitti.
Even she saying it can be more dangerous if that woman in her fertile phase. Sitti claimed she got the statement from some foreign science journal, but she can't tell the journal name.
Precursor
The same claim was exist on February, 8th 2016 from Nigerian media outlet Nigerianinfo[2] released an article about 16 girls between 13-17 years old suddenly get pregnant in swimming pool with a boy named Tommy Coulter that accidentally ejaculate himself in the swimming pool (the article was deleted, archived on Internet Archive)[3].
In another version, a thread in Liputan6[4] forum with same story claimed 13 years old girl suddenly get pregnant even without penetration, the original article says the girl was on vacation to Egypt and want to go to some swimming pool. After few days later, she suddenly get pregnant. Her mom remembered she read news that claimed a girl from Germany get pregnant after she swimming in swimming pool.
Debunked
On February, 15th 2016 the news about that was debunked by Indonesian fact-checking "Indonesian Hoaxes"[5] on their Facebook Fan Page and labeled it as "Hoax" (shown below).
American Pregnancy Association[6] explained that woman can't get pregnant when she swimming in the swimming pool on their website.
It is not likely that tiny sperm could travel through the vast area of water that would fill a pool, bathtub, or hot tub to reach the vagina and result in pregnancy. If ejaculation occurred in plain warm water, sperm could survive for a few minutes. If ejaculation occurs in very hot water, or water filled with pool chemicals, bubbles or other substances, sperm would not be able to survive for more than a few seconds. Pregnancy occurring from this is very unlikely and in most cases is not possible at all.
Apologized
After the statement goes viral, the Leader of Indonesian Child Rights Official Susanto[1] gave an clarification about Sitti's statement.
"Perlu kami sampaikan bahwa pemahaman dan sikap KPAI tidak sebagaimana narasi berita di media online tersebut. Semoga klarifikasi ini dapat meluruskan kesalahpamahaman berita sebagaimana yang beredar," says Susanto.
Meanwhile in different place, Sitti Hikmawatty apologized about her statement[1].
"Saya meminta maaf kepada publik karena memberikan statemen yang tidak tepat," (English: I'm really sorry to public for my misleading statement) says Sitti.
Spread
The statement became viral and many Indonesian users created memes and web comics about it. For example on February, 26th 2020, Indonesian Musician Addie MS[7] uploaded his photo with his son in swimming pool with caption "Kevin n Tristan…kamu ada bukan gara2 papa mama berenang bareng, lho… Sumpah." (English: Kevin and Tristan (Addie MS son), you are born not because mom and dad swimming together. I swear") on his Facebook, the post was received more than 20.000 reactions and 1.100 comments (shown below).
On February, 23rd 2020, Indonesian famous Lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea uploaded screenshot about Sitti's statement from Indonesian media outlet Tribunnews and mocking the statement on his Instagram @hotmanparisofficial[8], the post was received more than 119.000 likes (shown below).
On February, 24th 2020, Indonesian web comic KOSTUM (Komik Strip Untuk Umum)[9] uploaded web comic about flood using "Woman can get pregnant in pool" statement reference on their Facebook Fan Page. The post was received more than 9.000 reactions and 560 comments (shown below).
On February, 26th 2020, Facebook Fan Page "MEME Versus"[10] uploaded photo (original unknown) that showing many media outlets from many countries such as Turkey, Mexico, South Korea, Australia, Hong Kong, and many more created an article about Sitti's statement, the post was received more than 970 reactions and 490 comments (shown below).
Media outlets such as News18[11], Channel News Asia[12], Dailymail[13], New York Post[14] created an article about Sitti's Statement.
